Iwasn't sure if Lucian had seen me yet, but I was busy watching him as he helped an elderly wolf to his booth. Despite his status in the wolf community, he was humble and seemed totally at ease being a part of this with everyone else.

On Earth, the Werewolf Council members only showed their faces whenever it couldn’t be avoided. They were selfish bastards who only loved power and who hid so much about our history from us. We had only found out that white wolves were more than myths after centuries had passed. Something like that should have been common knowledge to a werewolf pack. But the Council had considered the information too dangerous. Too dangerous to them, maybe. They were all crooked.

Olcan, one of the Council members, had even sided with the vampires during the war. But he’d gotten what he deserved: death, like all the vampires.

But Lucian, he truly was a perfect man. Well, not perfect. But damn close.

His hair was wrapped up on top of his head with stray strands falling down his neck and face, and his smile was utterly captivating as he chatted with the people around him. He wore a black shirt with a dark brown apron tied around his waist, and even though we hadn't spoken to each other all night, I was happy just to watch him work.

A few hours later, I was sitting on the hill overlooking the festival, still in awe at the sheer number of wolves here tonight. Many had left, but there were still hundreds of them present.

My eyes strayed to my right, where Rumir was surrounded by children. I hadn't spoken to him all night, just like I hadn’t had a chance to talk to Lucian. Although Rumir and I had seen each other earlier, he’d been dragged away before we could talk.

He was now on his knees playing with the kids while their parents stood off to the side with amused smiles. He was so much bigger than anyone else. His wings had shrunk in size so the children could touch them, and I released a breath as their little squeals and giggles traveled to me on the wind.

It was adorable how calm he was around kids, when he was the complete opposite with adults. A little boy climbed onto his back, and Rumir tumbled to the ground, crying for help, but the other children only climbed onto him as well.

I had no idea he’d be this good with kids. And I hadn't thought they'd be so drawn to him.

I frowned.

What would a child of an Enchanted and a god/dragon hybrid be like?

“What are you doing all the way up here?” Brian sat down beside me. “Rehema was looking for you.”

“I just wanted a better view, and I was watching my mates,” I answered. But when I looked back, Rumir was gone. "But one of them has disappeared, it seems."

"Hmm, I'm not sure if that's cute or creepy," Brian said under his breath. “Let’s say both.”

I wiggled my nose as Rumir’s scent enveloped me, and I looked behind us as he stepped out of the forest, his eyes on Brian, who had yet to turn around.

Of course, he'd appear the moment a man sat down next to me.

I looked back down at the festival, and sure enough, Lucian was staring right at me, his earlier smile gone.

So all this time, they knew I was right here and pretended they didn't know? Neither of them have even glanced my way!

“This is Brian," I said to Rumir before he say something uncalled for. “He’s William and Elinor Bloodmoon’s son, which means we’re related, in case you didn’t already know.”

“He does, but we've never officially met.” Brian finally turned around, and Rumir’s piercing glare softened. "I've never fought a dragon before, though, or a god for that matter."

Rumir’s lips curved with a grin as he walked over and bent down beside me. “You think you could win?” He held a plate out to me, covered by another, but he was still looking at Brian. “A dragon could pick you up with one claw.”

Brian shrugged. “I’m a hybrid, too. You’d be surprised what I can do.”

Rumir nodded while I listened in shock. Were they bonding? Sure, I’d asked Rumir to tone down his rage, but I was still surprised he was being so nice.

Or was it because Brian was family?

“I think I know a thing or two about being a hybrid.” Rumir laughed dryly, then held the plate out to me. “Take it, Natalie. You haven’t eaten all night.”

“So you’ve been watching me?”

He placed the plate on my lap. "The same way you've been watching me. Besides, I have to keep an eye on you. I can't have just anyone trying to talk to you."

I frowned. “I thought you and I talked about that.”
