Three Days Later

"Iknow I've only been here three days, but I do believe these changes will make a difference. I've spoken to eleven new souls over the course of three days, and they all said they'd rather I accompany them during their first day outside the facility.” I watched Mrs. Kyman for any signs of disapproval before continuing. “Nine of them said they’d be open to going in a group.”

For the past three days, I'd spent my time interacting with any soul I was given the opportunity to after my training sessions were over. By the second day, I had agents asking me to sit with their clients because of the differences displayed by the souls I'd previously spoken to.

Upon waking up, many souls were understandably confused and afraid. Hell, I had been. And I remembered very clearly how it had felt. So I made sure the ones I’d spoken to learned what they needed to know to make them feel safe. As a result, they all were more relaxed about what awaited them outside the facility.

"I know I'm still training, but other agents have been asking me to speak with their clients. I can teach any agent willing to learn how to make this process easier for the souls." I cleared my throat as I gathered my courage. “What I’m doing it’s not hard. Anyone with empathy can do it. I don’t care if I’m paid for taking a new soul to the mall or educating them about the native wildlife. That’s okay. I want to do as much as I can to help because transitioning to this realm is not easy.”

Mrs. Kyman reclined in her seat. She didn't say anything for a time, and I waited. I'd asked Rumir and Lucian what they thought of my ideas, and they’d felt they were great. But Lucian had told me to be mindful that not everyone was okay with change.

I’d always been someone who could connect easily with others. Many Enchanteds were like that. That’s why I wanted to fulfill my soul purpose here at the Soul Recovery Facility.

"I don't want to seem disrespectful, but . . .”

Mrs. Kyman held her hand up, but she smiled. “Natalie, I agree with you.”

“You do?”

She nodded. “I do. You’ve raised valid points. I've heard what you've been doing from other agents, and I'm sure they'd all agree with the changes you've mentioned."

I nodded, fighting to contain my excitement. “Thank you, Mrs. Kyman.”

"This facility is in place to help souls. I'm frankly disappointed in myself for not noticing these changes needed to be implemented earlier, and I apologize to you if you felt left in the dark when you first arrived."

I stood up and placed my fist over my heart. "No need to apologize. I'm an Enchanted. This is what we do. We help others. I appreciate you listening.”

It had taken me a while to find my purpose here but finally, I had, and I was on cloud nine. The Enchanted pack here helped all the species, not just wolves. That was different from the way it was on Earth, where Enchanteds only worked with their own pack.

I was going to do the same thing here—use my abilities to help anyone who needed it.

“You’ve already proven me right about being the perfect addition to our department.” She stood up and placed her fist over her heart. "You'll be assigned your first client on Monday. But tomorrow, I'll arrange a meeting with the other agents. You can tell them what you’ve just told me."

“Goddess, thank you.” I took the hand she held out and shook it. “I can certainly do that. Enjoy the rest of your evening, Mrs. Kyman.”

“Likewise, Natalie, I’ll see you tomorrow.”

I exited her office and made a beeline for the bathroom. Once inside, I danced in place. My afterlife was finally taking a turn for the better. The eternal peace and happiness I'd wished for were becoming a reality.

Lucian and Rumir weren't at each other's throats, and even though they still had a lot to work out, for now, there was peace. I'd checked on Ruby and Axel every day I went into the facility, but they hadn’t yet woken up.

When I started to fret about how long they’d been asleep, a doctor from one of the lower floors showed me a man who had been asleep for six months. He reassured me that my friends were fine, but each soul was unique with their recovery time.

And tonight, I would be having dinner with Rehema, Brian, and my mates. It was Rehema’s idea for me to celebrate finding my soul purpose, and I couldn't wait.

My new family here was coming together, slowly but surely, and I was grateful for it. Hopefully, it would continue like this. I sensed, however, that it wouldn’t be that easy. Rumir had reported that the gods were still not saying anything about the infected animals, and frankly, I was getting pissed about it.

They reminded me a little too much of the corrupt governments on Earth, including the Werewolf Council, that had only sought power and nothing else. This infection, whatever it was, was spreading, and people needed to be made aware of it.

I understood the gods not wanting to create a panic, but the fae who’d been hurt during the cripec hunt could have died, her soul erased. And she’d had no idea she wasn’t safe.

Something was going on, and no matter how many times I prayed to the Goddess to send me a vision, I got nothing.

My bracelet started beeping, signally a video call, as I collected my handbag from the locker room. “Hey!” I waved at Rehema. “I’m leaving now.”

"Good," She motioned around her, showing me Brian, Lucian, and Rumir, already at the restaurant. "We’re all here. Hurry up, will you?"

"I'm coming, and I have amazing news."
