Roxanne quirked a brow. "Immunity?"

"Rosie seems to be unaffected by any and all influences, including an alpha's aura and a fated mate bond," Kao said.

Roxanne pondered on what he said for a moment. When she looked back at me, she pointed to the twins as she spoke. "I take it these two aren't your fated mates."

I shook my head. "Chosen."

"Rosie rejected her fated mate," Del said.

"I see," Roxanne muttered. "So, the legends are true."

"You've read about the legend of the Wolf Moon?" I asked.

"I did, and it seems that your path is following the path that Selene made centuries ago."

"I think so too. I had a vision about Selene just the other night," I mentioned.

"Did you?"

"Yes, that's why we're hoping you can fill in some of the empty gaps."

"What I know for sure about the Wolf Moon, as well as all the other full moons, is that their abilities awaken when they're most needed and manifest when their respected full moon cycle arises. For example, the Wolf Moon will fully unleash its potential when the actual Wolf Moon is up in the night sky. The time between now and when its cycle arrives is meant to prepare you for when it's needed. Part of the Wolf Moon's gift is the ability to bypass the laws of Fate and forge your own path in order to form the most powerful wolf pack of our generation."

"But what exactly does that mean?" I asked, feeling frustrated. I knew I was meant to create the strongest wolf pack, but what exactly did that entail? What could I do that would make our pack the strongest?

"The true strength of a wolf," Roxanne said. "When you chose your mates and marked each other, the essence of Selene you were given by the Wolf Moon transferred to them. Even now, I can sense Selene inside your mates."

The twins looked at each other in confusion, wondering what Roxanne meant by that. I knew the Wolf Moon's gift connected with the twins and Joaquin. When we mated, I felt tendrils of the gift connecting within them. They now had the gift too, but partially. Maybe it'll unlock when the Wolf Moon is up, but what would happen to them?

Roxanne continued. "Their portion of the Wolf Moon's gift will continue to grow as time moves on. I bet they'll possess the same immunity you do overtime. Right now, the gift is like a little seedling, barely sprouting into its full bloom."

“And then we might be turning into werewolves," Kao said.

Roxanne scrunched her brow, but I explained the little bit I saw before I was pulled back into reality. “The faintest glimpse of wolves that were anthropomorphic and were once the group of men that were chosen as Selene's mates.”

"It's possible that the ability to shapeshift into werewolves is the wolf shifter's true potential that was mentioned in the legends," Roxanne agreed. "Between that and the ability to suppress influences, your pack would be a force to be reckoned with."

"Do you think the Wolf Moon's gift will completely protect us from anything that would influence our actions?" Kai asked, his voice sounding hopeful. "Not just an alpha aura or a fated mate bond. Could it protect us from everything?"

Roxanne studied my mate for a long moment in silence. It wasn't her first time eyeing him warily, which had me feeling uneasy. She must've been reading his mind, picking up on the underlying root of his questions. If he was asking about all forms of influence, did that mean he was worried about someone manipulating him? It had to have been something outside of a normal wolf influence if he was asking about all forms. I wish he would tell me what was going on.

"It's possible," was all Roxanne said, and I didn't miss the way Kai visibly sighed in relief at the news. Oh yeah, I needed answers.

"If the Wolf Moon's gift won't do much until the night of the Wolf Moon, then what do we need to do in the meantime?" Javier asked.

"First off, we need to get Joaquin back," I answered firmly. "We can't wait for the Wolf Moon to rescue him, he might not last that long."

"If he's also connected with the Wolf Moon's gift, then it is imperative that you all retrieve him from enemy hands as soon as possible," Roxanne said.

"Why?" Del asked cautiously.

"Because he's at his most vulnerable while the gift is growing inside him. If anyone possessing one of Selene's gifts is killed by someone else, that person will inherit the gift in the deceased's place."

I gasped at the horrid news. The tension surrounding our table intensified as Roxanne's words sank in. My wolf, seeming to sense the urgency I felt at getting our mate back, was fighting the mental walls that separated us twice as hard. A part of me didn't want to resist her now that I knew that a fragment of the gift inside Joaquin could be stolen if someone kills him. If Pierce knew about it, Joaquin was as good as dead. I couldn't let that happen.

"I have to go!" I slid my chair back and got up in a panic, but several pairs of arms grabbed me and forced me back down. I fought against their hold. I couldn't wait anymore, I needed to get to Joaquin before it was too late. I needed to save him.

"Rosie, calm down," Del demanded, but she may as well have been talking to a wall. I shook my head and tried to fight off my comrades and family.
