"Kai," I shouted his name as loud as I could. "Kai, where are you?"

I opened my mouth getting ready to call out his name again but froze when I heard the faintest sound of my name in the distance. "R-Rosie."

"Kai? Kai, is that you? Say something so I can find you!" I ran as fast as my legs would carry me, desperate to get to him. Hoping that I could protect him if he was in danger. His voice came off as a whisper, but I heard it. He was here. I moved faster, hoping that I was getting closer to reaching him. After what felt like a lifetime, I saw a faint light a few feet away. The closer I got to it, the more I noticed something red was at the other end.

Red, like his eyes.

"Hang on, Kai, I'm coming!"

I finally reached the source, gasping at the thick red fog that wrapped within itself like a cocoon. I hunched over to catch my breath but narrowed my eyes forward to see if I could make out anything inside. The fog was so thick it was hard to tell. "Kai? Are you there?"

Movement confirmed it before I heard his voice. "Rosie." It came off sounding hoarse, like he was struggling to breath. But it was Kai, I could feel it. Feeling a second wind coming on, I ran towards the red fog. I thought going through it would be easy, but as soon as I hit the surface, a burst of air pressure tried pushing me back. Whatever it was, it wanted me to stay out.

Like hell I was going to do that.

Not while my mate was suffering in there.

Gritting my teeth, I forced my way through. My feet slid from under me a few times, but I'd manage to keep myself from falling back.

"I'm coming," I growled to Kai. Anger. I was sensing so much anger coming from the fog. Where was it coming from? I was halfway through the thick crimson veil, my vision of Kai getting clearer. He was lying on his side facing me. He was panting and had one of his hands wrapped around his throat. So, hewasstruggling to breath. When he looked up at me, his eyes were still flashing red. He looked pained, but I could also feel the torrent of rage wafting off him too.

"R-Rosie, don't," Kai managed to get out. "Too dangerous."

"I don't care," I snapped back. "I'm not leaving without you."

The more I struggled to reach him, the more my own anger grew. Maybe this fog was starting to affect me too, or maybe I was that pissed. Oh well, if I was angry, that would only serve to fuel my need to get to my mate. I wasn't going to leave him here. My body began to glow the color of turquoise.

My Wolf Moon's gift.

Drawing more of my power, I tugged it to the surface, pushing back against the crimson walls that was trying to keep me from the man I loved. With a shout, I poured out as much power as I could, pushing my way further and further in until I finally broke through, dropping to my knees in front of Kai.

I scooped him up and wrapped my arms around him, shielding him from the fog of rage that was suffocatinghim. The fog slowly began to close in around us, but the marking on my forehead flashed brighter, cutting through the thin veils. "You can't have him," I shouted like the fog was a living being. "You hear me? I won't let you have him!"

I squeezed my eyes shut when the light of my marking grew too bright. Despite not being able to see, my grip on Kai only tightened. Everything blurred after that.

"Rosie? Rosie, are you still with us?" I felt hands shaking my shoulders. Slowly opening my eyes, I waited for my vision to clear, and was greeted with Kao's face visibly relaxed when I came to. "Oh, thank Mother Moon." He sighed in relief.

Wait, Kai! I no longer felt my arms around him, but I did feel my hands holding onto something.

Right, his head.

I looked down to see the red glow leave his eyes and body. His head was limp in my hold with his eyes closed. With the rage vacating his subconscious, I could pick up the wavelengths of his mind through our mate bond. He was exhausted, but he was normal again.

"I think he's okay now," I huffed out.

Rowan got off Kai and hoisted him off the ground, holding him bridal style. "I'll take him inside," he said. "Nice work, Rosie."

I grinned at him, thankful I was getting the hang of using my Wolf Moon's gift. Now that the worst was over, I needed to settle everything else before going to my mate. I looked to Kao with narrowed eyes. "Go inside with Rowan. Wait for me there."

Kao gulped, already knowing he had a lot of explaining to do. "Rosie, I—"

"Don't!" I snapped at him. "Wait for me inside. We'll talk about everything when I'm done out here. And I do meaneverything."

Kao didn't protest anymore. Instead, he hung his head and headed for the Lodge where I planned to ring his little neck until he told me what the hell was going on with Kai. Next on my agenda was our little party crasher. Reginald was sitting up, his arms held back by Javier and Raph. Del and Roxanne were standing on either side of him, making sure that he wasn't going anywhere. I stopped a foot away from him, crouching low so we were at eye level. He sneered at me, but I paid him no mind. Of course, he wouldn't want to thank any of us for saving his life.

"I should've let my mate finish you off," I said with a growl.
