"Like hell we're giving up." Kao stretched his hands out over the box and placed them down on top. "Kai's coming back to us one way or another."

"Kai's family." Byron pressed his hand over Kao's, completing the circle we formed. "We look after our family."

For now, I gave Kai's bracelet to Kao to hold onto. He graciously accepted it, then he and Joaquin went upstairs for bed. That left me alone with Byron. Grinning, he grabbed me by my wrist and pulled me to him. "Thank you for including me," Byron said before kissing me.

"I wouldn't have it any other way." Suddenly feeling nervous, I looked down and chewed at my lower lip. "Byron? I know we've talked about it, but I was wondering something."

"What is it?"

"W-Well, I know that we've just started being a couple, and I know it seems rushed considering what we have to worry about next month, but that doesn't change how I feel about you, or that I know you're it for me. So, I guess what I'm asking is... would you—"

"Yes," Byron said cutting off my question to ask him to be my fourth chosen mate. "Yes, I would be honored to be your mate, Rosie."

My smile split from ear-to-ear seconds before I planted a kiss to Byron's lips. Without breaking the contact, Byron's hands went to my ass, lifting me up and holding me close to him. My legs instinctively wrapped around his waist. We pulled apart to make it easy for Byron to carry me up the stairs without knocking over the wall or something.

"My room or yours?" he asked me.

The way my body tingled to the sound of that question. "Yours."

Accepting my answer, Byron took me down the hall until we stopped in front of a door. He fished out his key card from his pant pocket and used it to unlock the door. We entered in his room, Byron carrying me to the bed before laying me down gently. I took a moment to look around his room, noticing the lack of personality in the decor. It looked like all the other rooms in the lodge, which was disappointing. I was expecting to see something that would show me more about who he was, but nothing.

"Something wrong?" Byron asked, noticing that I was frowning.

"Not exactly, but I'd expected you to have more flare in your room. You're not much of a decorator, are you?"

"Not really," he admitted with a laugh, rubbing the back of his neck and avoiding eye contact. I thought I noticed a hint of a blush too. "Carly was the more colorful one. When we lived together, she set the place to look how she wanted, and I went along with it because it made her happy."

"You seem like the people pleaser type of mate."

"Yep. Happy wife means happy life," Byron said, grinning.

I was about ready to tell Byron to undress and come join me in bed, but something on the nightstand caught my eye. There was a picture frame set beside the bed, revealing two figures in the picture. One I knew to be Byron right away from the curly black hair and beard, but the other person was a mystery to me. A woman who was a head shorter than him but with thick, fiery head of red hair. The face was a stranger to me, but in my heart, it was easy to tell who she was.

"This is Carly?" I asked, picking up the frame.

"Yeah," Byron said, dipping his head low.

This was the woman who had Byron before me, his fated mate. The woman who was taken from this world too soon. The one thing I would never try to do is replace her. She was fated to him and deserved to live on inside his heart. All I could do was love him now and help rebuild his tattered heart. Byron had been a loving man so far, and now he was going to be mine forever.

"She's beautiful," I said, letting my fingers run over the image of Carly. "You guys looked great together."

"I appreciate it, Rosie. I really do," Byron whispered.

I set the frame back where it belonged and look up at him. "I know I'm not Carly, and I know I'm not fated to you, but I hope you know that I still love you and will continue to love you after tonight."

Byron finally looked up, his eyes dark as he looked me up and down. He reached over his head to grab the back of his shirt and pulled it off him, letting it fall at his feet. Growing up in a wolf pack my whole life, nudity was a common thing for me. We learn that it's impolite to stare and gawk at unless we were fated to them. I loved seeing my mates naked and admiring how sexy they were every chance I got. With Byron, I never allowed myself to look at him until now. His build was every bit as bulky as I expected it to be. His body a complete wall of muscle with dark curls scattered across his chest. Oddly enough, seeing how hairy he was made him look all the more sexy. His biceps bulged and his abs tightened as my eyes raked him up and down.

"I like the way you look at me." Byron's voice sounded rough.

I licked my lips in anticipation. "Finish."

Byron did. He removed his foots, not bothering to wear socks, then began undoing his pants. His hands reached inside and slowly pulled them down his powerful thighs. When they puddled at his feet, Byron kicked them off then stood tall again, giving me permission to look at him in all his naked glory. And looking, I did. Byron was the perfect amount of hairy from his chest to the treasure trail that ran down to the thick pubic hair that wrapped around his thick, veined cock. He was half hard, but when he noticed my attention on it, it twitched with interest. My legs clenched together, imagining what it would feel like to have it stretching me and filling me with his cum.

"You're so damn hot," I choked out.

Byron rumbled and moved closer to me. I sat up resting my hands on his chest while he grabbed my waist. "And you are a goddess worthy of being worshipped."

My face heated at the compliment. "Smooth talker."
