Kai growled. "I already told you, he's gone. "

"And I'm telling you he's not. But if you're right, then do it." I held out my arms in waiting. "Kill me, then. Take the Wolf Moon's gift from me. If Kai's gone, you'll be able to do it easily, would you not? But if he is still in here, then I believe he won't let you. His heart would never allow it."

Kai snarled, the red aura surrounding his body simmered with heat, causing me to sweat from where I stood. "You're a bigger fool than I thought."

I did nothing when Kai tackled me to the ground, holding me with a grip around my neck. His knee was pressing against my stomach and his free hand raised above his head, claws out and ready to pierce my heart.

Kao growled and was about to intervene, but I sent him a direct link through our bond not to. To trust me. Meanwhile my eyes remained glued to the man on top of me, who could very well end my life right now. Kai's teeth were bare, his eyes glowing with anger, but he didn't move.

"What are you waiting for?" I asked with little air I could since his grip on my neck was tight. "Do it. That's what you were planning to do, right?"

"Why aren't you fighting back?" Kai asked through gritted teeth.

"I only fight monsters. The bad guys who threaten and hurt others. That's not who you are, Kai, and that's not what your Berserker Wolf is either. It protects you, and those you hold dear. That's why it didn't Kao when you were kids. Not because Kao got lucky, but because it read in your heart that Kao was no danger. That's why you also pushed Joaquin out of the way when Mordred tried imprisoning you both."

It was faint, but I knew my words were hitting home by the slightest twitch from the corner of his left eye. My words were registering in his head. "If I fight you now, if I kill you, then that's it. You become the monster you're so afraid to be. But that's not who you are, is it? You're not a monster, Kai. If you are, then just fucking kill me!"

Kai screamed and brought his clawed hand down. I didn't flinch as I mentally prepared myself to be impaled. I was expecting to face searing pain and lack of oxygen as I bleed out or lost the ability to breath. Or maybe it wouldn't been like flipping a switch. One minute you were alive, and the next you were dead. Not of that happened. I slowly looked down to see the tips of Kai's claws pressing against the spot in my chest where my heart was, but it didn't break through skin. It didn't harm me. Wide eyed, I looked up at Kai, his whole body physically shaking. Tears were streaming from his eyes.

"Kai?" I whispered his name, almost in disbelief. "Kai, is that you?"

"Ro... Rosie," Kai managed to get out. "R-Rosie, help me."

It was Kai, and he was fighting desperately to gain back control, but he wouldn't be able to fight it alone. He needed help. He needed my help. Knocking his hand away from my chest, I grabbed his face and pulled him down for a kiss. When our lips made contact, I poured as much of my Wolf Moon's power forward, sending it from my body to Kai's, forcing it to reach the seedling buried inside him.

You can't have him,I told the New Moon like it was a real person. I was also telling Fate. You hear me? You can't have him. I won't let you. You. Can't. Have. Him!

I poured all my love into that kiss, into the power I sent to him, forcing that seedling to grow, to evolve. To be a light that burned the darkness that kept my mate prisoner. Kai began to kiss back, his hands gripping my upper arm. Both of our Wolf Moon's markings shining brightly, but whereas I only had the one on my forehead, Kai had two crescent moon markings on his forehead. A red one and a turquoise one, both pointing in opposite directions and overlapping one another.

The world around us was blinded by the Wolf Moon's light as I repelled the New Moon's Curse out of Kai. Kai broke from the kiss, stepping back as his body glowed with the light of the Wolf Moon. He started shifting, but instead of his wolf form, his remained on two feet, and let his body grow and expand into his Lycan form. When the shift was complete, the lightshow ended, and Kai's Lycan howled to the sky. By the third howl, Kao joined him, melding their songs together. I heard two other howls coming from the direction of the lodge, possibly Joaquin and Byron.

The song ended, and Kai stood there in his Lycan form. He whimpered as I got up, dropping to one knee in submission. Guilt and shame reared its ugly head through our bond, and I went to him wrapping my arms around his thick neck and held him. "It's okay. It's okay. You're safe now."

Kai's body shrank as he slowly began shifting back to his human form. The whimpers morphed into sobs, and his arms went around my waist. Kai cried in the crook of my neck, not daring to look at me even as I tried pushing his head up.

"I'm sorry." He got out in a cracked voice. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Rosie. I'm so fucking sorry."

"Kai, stop. It's okay," I assured him, my eyes filling with tears at how broken and defeated he sounded. "It's all over now, Kai. The curse on you is broken. You're in control now."

I felt Kao shifting back, coming around an embracing his twin from behind, sandwiching Kai between us. "Thank Mother Moon you're back."

"P'Kao," Kai whimpered. "I'm so—"

"That's enough apologizing now," Kao said. "You're not responsible for what happened, you understand? And it doesn't matter anymore, because you're here now. You're with us again, and you'll never have to worry about someone influencing you again."

I could tell Kai didn't want to believe him, that it was still his fault for being brainwashed in the first place. It would take some time for Kai to forgive himself more than anything and realize that what happened was beyond our control. But sooner or later, he would get there.

"All right guys, listen," I said, grabbing both of their attention. "We still have a war out there, and Pierce and Mordred are nowhere to be found. Kai, do you know where he is?

"

Kai scrunched his brow as he tried recalling anything that may help. "I think Pierce is in town? I don't know about Mordred, but he wanted me to kill you, then Pierce."

Kao and I exchanged knowing looks. Mordred wasn't fighting, but rather planned on Kai doing his dirty work for him. Which included taking out Pierce so he wouldn't have to do it himself. "We need to go," I said, my back healed enough for me to stand without wincing. "Kai, you okay to keep going?"

Kai seemed hesitant, looking from Kao to me. But then his eyes grew vacant for a moment. A few seconds later, his expression grew hard as he nodded. "We're ready."

We?I was about to ask about it, but the answer came to me in the form of his eyes. When they glowed, they did so in two different colors. The left flashed with turquoise while the right glowed crimson. His Berserker Wolf was still there, and he seemed as eager to fight.
