“If you don’t want me to come over there and get you naked, I suggest you run.” His words sent a thrill through me, and I smirked. “I’m not kidding, babe.”

“Relax, I’m going.” I blew him a kiss and slipped out of his bedroom and into the bathroom across the hall.

Dad hadn’t been too happy when I’d asked to stay here last night, but he’d finally agreed after grilling Zane for the most awkward thirty minutes of my life. He could hardly refuse my request when Harleigh literally lived with her boyfriend.

After quickly doing my business and washing up, I slipped out of the bathroom only to find Zane’s bedroom door open.

“You know, Zane Thackeray,” I heard Miriam say. “I’m so proud of the young man you’re becoming. Celeste is a beautiful soul, and you’ll do well to remember that.”

I smiled, creeping down the hall to watch them, my heart almost bursting at the sight of Zane helping his grams add creamer to her coffee.

“Good morning,” I said, not wanting to eavesdrop any longer than necessary.

“Good morning, dear. Did you sleep well?”

“I did, thank you.”

Zane caught my eye, his lips twitching.

“Behave,” I mouthed, hoping to God Miriam didn’t notice our heated exchange.

“What time are we going over to Nix’s? I want to help Jessa with the pie,” Miriam asked.

“We can leave whenever you’re ready,” I said.

“Perfect. I need to curl my hair first. Zane usually helps me with the stubborn ones, but I… I was thinking maybe you could help me, dear.”

“I would love that,” I said over the ball of emotion in my throat.

Zane kissed her cheek and then came over to me. “You help Grams and I’ll grab a shower. And thank you,” he whispered.

“Whatever for?”

He stared at me intently. “For choosing us.”

Zane

“So how was your first sleepover?” Kye asked as we hung out in Nix’s living room while the girls and Grams helped Jessa with the food.

“The best kind of torture.”

“That good, huh?” He smirked, and I bit down on my lip, shaking my head.

Having Celeste in my bed had been perfect. I’d loved feeling her pressed up against me as she slept. But trying to fuck her with Grams down the hall was a bit of a mood killer.

“I’m happy for you, Z. You deserve a little bit of good in your life. And look at the two of them, as thick as thieves already.” He glanced over to Grams and Celeste.

My heart swelled as I watched the two of them laughing while Celeste helped Grams roll out a sheet of pie crust. “I don’t deserve her,” I murmured. “But I’m sure as fuck going to find a way to keep her.”

Kye gripped my shoulder. “Something tells me you won’t have to try very hard.”

“What are you two assholes talking about?” Nix dropped down on the couch, Max and Nate joining us. Nate had blown off his family to spend the day with us, and Max had nowhere else to go since Michael was going to see Sabrina.

“Z’s girl.”

“Seriously? That’s my sister, Carter.” Max glowered at me.

“Name a time and place, kid.” I smirked.
