Kye unlaced his pants before reaching into his locker to grab his cell phone. His brows furrowed at whatever the text message said.
“Problem?”
“One word. My fucking sister.”
“That was three words,” I said.
“Asshole. She’s asked me to cover for her tonight with Mom.”
“Could be worse. She could bring a guy home and—”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, Z. I do not need to be traumatized again.”
“You think she’s got a date?” I asked, and Kye’s fingers flew over the screen.
A second later his phone bleeped. “No,” he said. “She’s hanging out with Celeste.”
I tsked. “You need to discourage that shit.”
“Got your panties in a twist over Harleigh’s sister again?”
“Fuck off.”
“Celeste is cool. I don’t know why you—”
“She’s not cool, she’s one of them.” My teeth ground together, irritation zipping down my spine. “She doesn’t belong here.”
“Yeah, I know. But she’s Harleigh’s sister. And we let Miller hang out with us sometimes and he’s one of them too.”
“That’s different.”
“Because he brings good weed?” Kye arched his brow, chuckling as he grabbed his towel and shower gel.
I shoved all my clothes into my bag and followed him into the showers.
“Yo, Z, man,” Darius called from the end of the row. “Did I hear right that you turned down Freya at the party?”
“What of it?”
“A girl like that with a reputation like hers… you’d have to be an idiot to turn down—”
“And how is Cherri? Still wishing it was Nix’s dick she was riding instead of yours?”
Kye let out a bark of laughter, but Darius only scowled.
“You’re a real prick sometimes, you know that, right?”
“Yeah, yeah, tell it to someone who cares,” I murmured, stepping under the spray.
Darius Hench needed to learn to shut the fuck up.
“He’s not wrong,” Kye murmured. “You need to lighten up… get laid.” He smirked.
I grabbed my shower gel and threw it at his head. “You need to learn to shut the fuck up.”
Kye’s laughter filled the shower room. But I wasn’t laughing.
Not even a little bit.
