Page 75 of These Defiant Souls

I turned off the main light and headed back to the kitchen where I found Celeste washing the dishes.

“You don’t need to do that,” I said.

“It’s okay, I want to help.”

She kept saying that.

Dangling the words in front of me as if anything she could do would make things better.

I moved closer, pushing my body up against hers as she dipped the plate in the soapy water. Celeste’s breath caught as I slid my hand around her waist and buried my nose in the back of her hair, breathing her in.

She smelled so fucking good. My hand trailed up her stomach and over her tits until I cupped her jaw, forcing her to twist her head a little.

“Zane,” she breathed, her eyelashes fluttered as we stared at each other.

“You want to help, Einstein?”

“I…” She nodded.

Fuck it.

I smashed my mouth down on hers, plunging my tongue into her mouth as she gasped. She managed to turn, twisting her fingers into my hoodie and anchoring us together. I poured every ounce of frustration and anger and hatred into the kiss, punishing her with my mouth and tongue and teeth. But she gave it back just as good.

“Fuck, you’re a hot little thing.” My hands were all over her body, mapping her curves, slipping underneath her sweater so I could feel the heat of her skin.

“Wait,” she whispered.

I pulled back, arching a brow. My mouth twisted. “You having second thoughts?”

“No.” She shook her head, pressing a soft kiss to my lips. “But not here, not like this while your grandma is down the hall.”

I glared at her. I didn’t like that she’d stopped me. I didn’t want to talk or hang out or share stories.

I wanted to drown.

Preferably in her sweet kisses and soft curves.

That’s all I needed from her.

A distraction.

That’s all she could ever be.

“Zane,” she said again when I dove in to kiss her.

I blew out a frustrated breath, feeling the lust inside me ebb away a little.

“Come on,” I said, grabbing her hand. “I know a place we can go.”

Celeste

“It’s beautiful out here,”I sighed, flicking my eyes to Zane who was staring out of the window.

After he’d walked me to my car, he’d climbed in beside me and directed me to drive to a concealed spot down by the reservoir. It was stunning, the moonlight reflecting off the vast body of water which glittered like diamonds were sprinkled upon it.

But the heat between us earlier had cooled somewhat, and now, I didn’t know what to say.

When Zane kissed me, I felt alive. For the first time in my life, I felt like more than the girl everyone around me believed me to be.
