Adrianna clapped. "Oh my God. I'm keeping her. Yes, I like you very much. And while it would make sense to do that, and be very practical, we are Saints. And we make things far too complicated for our own good. And you'll be a breath of fresh air. But in the meantime, basically, Saint here gives you security and treats you like his wife. But then he is hands off. You see my younger brother isn't so good with relationships anyway."

I blinked in surprise. “I’m sure he does just fine. I’m not worried. I’m ready to sign when you are.”

“Okay, fine. That’s enough grilling you two. Leave my fiancée alone,” Saint growled.

Adrianna grinned. "See, Jasper, was that so hard? She's ready to sign. Let's get the show on the road. Because I'm sure you two have other things you want to do. Whatever platonic things people do in that penthouse of yours."

Heat crept up my neck. Because while Jasper Saint hadn't touched me, not since the night of the auction, it didn't mean I hadn't fantasized about touchinghim. Which now was obviously never going to happen. But I said nothing.

"Like I said, I will sign on the dotted line. Married before twenty-one. Lucky me."

Saint’s brows popped. “Your birthday is coming?”

“Yeah. In two weeks.”

“Noted. You’re sure you want to do this?”

Was I sure? Hell no. But I needed this. “I’m sure.”

So when Maureen came over and presented me with the tablet for signatures, I took a deep breath and signed. Whatever feelings I was currently feeling for Jasper were going to be ignored. I could do it. No way in hell was I ever, ever acting on it.

CHAPTER 15

KAYA

In the last forty-eight hours,I had officially become a crazy person. That was literally the only explanation for this shit that was about to take place right now.

Two weeks ago I was a normal girl, catching the bus, spending too much money on wine, and nursing an unhealthy addiction toLove Island. But now I was leaving campus, coming down the stone stairs of uni with my driver waiting and my capable armed guard flanking me.

Before I even made it down the stairs, one of the back doors of the car opened and out stepped my future husband, looking every bit the billionaire playboy. He wore a suit complete with vest, crisp white shirt, and a green-striped tie that brought out his eyes. He looked good enough to eat.

Which was a problem because he wasnoton the menu. I was so blown away by his presence that I couldn't help but hesitate just for a moment. He watched me with a smirk on his face, but the moment I paused he frowned and stood to full attention. The look in his gaze said it all.

If I ran, he would hunt me down. I could see it in the way his body weight shifted forward to the balls of his feet. There was norunning from him. Which was an insane thought anyway. Why would I run? He was the only thing keeping me safe right now.

And somehow tomorrow night, I had to go on stage in front of a room full of people I didn’t know from Adam and proclaim that he was my fiancé. Not just any fiancé off the street. Billionaire, Jasper Saint. I was losing my mind. How had this become my life?

"Are you okay?" Jasper’s gaze roamed over me with concern as I approached.

I gave him a nod, and he opened the door to let me in to the back seat. When he joined me inside I took a deep breath. “So tomorrow’s the big announcement.”

“That’s the plan. I promise it’ll be mostly painless, so try not to look like I’m walking you to the guillotine, okay?”

“Said the lion to the mouse,” I whispered.

He cleared his throat and pulled something out of his pocket. “We should take care of one detail though.”

My gaze fell to the pale blue ring box in his hand, and my heart squeezed. The seat in the back of the Tesla suddenly felt too small.

His gaze lifted to mine. "You don't have to panic."

"Who's panicked?" I said in a high-pitched voice with rapid glances between Saint’s face and the box. "I'm not panicked."

He chuckled low. "You look panicked, Sprite. And when I asked you before, I should have led with this."

"Oh, look at you, being all chivalrous,” I said, still not taking my eyes off that blasted box. “Are you sure we have to make a big announcement? Maybe we can make it quietly.”

He shrugged. "It's convenient and expeditious. The sooner we can get the Saint name connected to you, the better off you will be in the long run. Speaking of your security, how did things work out with Rourke’s team today?"
