“May I?” Gage asked, holding out his hands.

She took them, and again, he swung her up into the carriage, seemingly without effort.

“Wow,” she said to herself as she waited for him to climb in.

“What?” he asked.

“You’re very strong,” she said stiffly.

“Thank you,” he replied with a lazy grin that made her cheeks tingle. “Ready to go home?”

She nodded as the horses began moving. Athena trotted beside them once more, seeming to enjoy the exercise.

“I hope you’ll enjoy tonight’s stay,” Oberon said. “It’s a little different from your first place.”

“Tell us about it,” Gage said.

“No,” Naomi said quickly. “Let’s have it be a surprise.”

He smiled down at her.

“She’s right,” he told Oberon.

“Very well,” the AI said. “You won’t have very long to wait.”

The carriage continued. Despite the fact that it was floating above the ground, it still bumped along the dirt path through the trees, jostling Naomi further and further into Gage’s warmth - another deliberate design choice, no doubt.

When they went over a particularly large bump, she cried out and had to brace herself not to fall off the bench.

“For the sake of the Rings,” Gage growled, putting his arms out. “Come here.”

She crawled gratefully into his lap, nearly shivering with pleasure when he locked his big arms around her waist.

It was almost embarrassing how quickly her body responded to his. It took all she had not to wiggle and squirm.

And she could feel how much he wanted her, the thick column of his eager flesh throbbed against her back, and he hissed in a breath every time the jostling of the carriage made her move against him.

How could she possibly make it through another night without allowing him to stake his claim?

Another rough bump wound her up with his face nuzzled in her neck. The sizzle of his hot breath against her tender flesh made her moan lightly.

His arms clenched around her, tight as iron.

Forget making it through the night - it was starting to feel like they wouldn’t even make it out of the carriage.

Suddenly, the trees opened up to reveal a lush valley, kissed by moonlight.

A familiar looking castle was nestled within a garden, a moat gleaming in the starlight around it.

“It’s the castle from the paintings at the mansion,” Naomi realized out loud.

“It looks a lot like the sandcastle we built,” Gage added.

“You’re right,” she breathed.

“Tonight, you’ll be staying in this castle,” Oberon told them. “And tomorrow you’ll participate in activities here, like learning to use an Old Terran bow and arrow, and how to spar with swords.”

“Awesome,” Gage said, sounding way more enthusiastic than Naomi was about it. She’d never really been one for fighting.
