“I’m not right for her,” he whispered. The razor-sharp truth of it sliced into him from all sides. “I love her, but... She deserves a better man.” He knew once he spoke the words into the wind, he couldn’t take them back. He almost hated the angels in that moment, for making him rise above his old ways and see farther than himself. “She told me I wasn’t like Magnus, but she has no idea how wrong she is. I’ve been selfish and uncaring of consequences my whole life, just like him.”
Agon and Samael were silent, for once.
“That’s why you arranged for Magnus to cross paths with me, isn’t it?” Liam asked, not expecting an answer. He already knew. “He’s a reflection of my own flaws.”
Again, they were silent, which was answer enough.
Liam swallowed hard and dropped his head into his hands. “What should I do?”
“Love her enough to let her go,” Samael said.
“I have complete faith in you, ruffian,” Agon added kindly. “You and Magnus may share some similarities, but at his core, he’s missing something that you have in abundance.”
“What’s that?”
The dark-haired angel smiled softly. “I’ll tell you another time.”
“Of course,” Liam mumbled. Always with the secrets, these two. “Can you at least tell me why it’s so important for them to be together?Whymust she be with Finn?”
Samael and Agon exchanged a long look, in which Liam was certain they were having a private discussion.
He didn’t expect an answer, so when they stood on either side of him, enveloped him in their snowy wings and rose into the sky, Liam almost jumped out of his skin. With growing alarm, he watched Finn’s terrace become smaller and smaller as they rose through the atmosphere toward someplace far beyond.
And then they showed him.
Later, Liam wished he’d never asked for answers, but it was too late for him to go back to blissful ignorance now. All his desires were nothing compared to what hung in the balance. Corahadto embrace her true destiny with Finn. This time, no matter what obstacles came their way, Liam was bound and determined to make it happen.
