Kaedyn immediately starts laughing, and I look at him. He pales as well. “I know what you did last summer,” I say with utmost confidence, because unfortunately my brother has a big mouth and he told me about the drunk spin bottle that a lot of the princes had gotten into.

From the rousing game of truth or dare, I learned that it just so happens that both of the princes from the Air Kingdom happen to be bisexual. Watching both my mates cringe like their skin is literally crawling as they’re trying to avoid answering the question, even though it’s a game of truth or dare. So they technically have to answer it regardless of whether or not they want to.

“Well, like I said, there was this one time,” Hollis starts. “We were all drunk. It was after one of the big war games, and much like right now, we were having a game of truth or dare. Needless to say, I lost, and I ended up kissing another man.”

That stops me in my tracks. “Hollis, really?”

“Yes, really.”

“You don’t say.”

“Yes, unfortunately I do say.”

Puzzled by this, I stare. “Why is it unfortunate?”

“Well, what female in her right mind wants a guy that’s turned on by other guys sometimes?” He rolls his eyes as if to dismiss what he just said.

I shake my head and rest it on his shoulder and my hand gently on his forearm. “If you and one of my other mates want to get busy, just be honest, that’s all I ask,” I say to him calmly, and that by itself throws him off.

He stays still in complete and total disbelief at the fact that I would be okay with him going at it with one of my other mates. “Well, yeah. Why wouldn’t I be? It’s not like you’re cheating on me. It’s not like you were going outside of the mate bond, right? ’Cause I mean in a sense, through me, you guys are all mated together.”

Kaedyn’s eyebrows shoot up and he stares at Hollis, then looks back at me questioningly. I’m guessing this is something that was never brought up or ever thought of by him or his family. “Well, yeah. Think about it. Through me you can feel Hollis, right?”

He thinks about it for several seconds, then he nods, agreeing with me. Shrugging my shoulders, I play with the hem of my shirt, waiting for the mother of all bombs to drop and that they realize the bond is much more than they initially realized.

“No shit,” Hollis says.

I think he’s almost happy, and Kaedyn is obviously puzzled. I’m sitting here in full belief that at some point, one of these guys will break. Whether it’s these two or the other two that I still get to collect. One set of mates will break and I will catch them together. A girl can only hope.

“So now it’s your turn,” Hollis says with a self-assurance that’s almost concerning.

Arching a brow, I turn to face him, pressing my back against Kaedyn. “Go ahead. Fire away.”

Hollis ponders the question fully, wants to ask me for several moments. “If you had the chance, would you take all of your mates to bed at once? Or would you limit to just one or two of us at a time?” That is definitely a very pointed question that he’s looking for a specific answer. I look down at my fingernails for several moments and then back over to him.

“Well, it really depends on if everybody can play nice. Yeah, it’s a serious answer. For example. You know you’re not gonna get fire and water into the same room at all, and if we can, it’s gonna take a miracle.” I tap my finger on my bottom lip as I ponder my next statement. “And for some reason, they actually play nice. What are the odds of it lasting?”

That’s a question that none of us have an answer for since the princes of those two kingdoms seem to be almost constantly at war with each other. Over a girl that has been long gone and mated almost four years now. It’s all because they both wanted the same female. They both thought they had a shot with her. Yet she used them to get the things that she wanted from both kingdoms. When she got exactly what she wanted, she moved on and actually ran away with a wolf from the wildling pack.

I ponder everything, then move myself to sit and look at both my mates at the same time. “I’ll be honest with you. I’m open to you guys sharing whatever kind of relationship within the mate bond that you guys want. Whether it’s with earth, air, fire or water, I don’t care,” I say as passionately as possible. “If you guys need a night alone and you don’t want the rest of the castle to know what’s going on. Let me know and I can easily move through the shadows, and nobody would be the wiser where I am.” After I finish my statement, the car falls silent. The rest of our trip is very boring comparatively to our rousing game of truth or dare. Kaedyn’s question is mild compared to Hollis’s, and therefore it is answered quickly. After each one of us has a turn asking each other questions. We leaned back and just enjoy watching the scenery go by.

Chapter23

Kaedyn

The sunslowly sets over the horizon, painting the world in shades of orange and gold and red. There’s nothing more beautiful than that moment between dusk and nightfall. You get to watch as the world prepares to go to sleep for the night. Bella’s powers begin to awaken and become stronger than normal. During the daytime, her powers are not diminished, but not at full capacity. But as soon as the sun sets, it seems to be amplified, and she’s able to do more than my wildest imagination. As we crest the next hill, the castle for the Water Wolves slowly comes into view.

It’s a peaceful kingdom of healers, musicians and other types of artisans. It’s a community, much like the one that I come from. There’s a lot of healers and doctors, and I can only hope that Bella finds what she’s looking for. But I’m guessing whoever she takes on as her third mate will be with us for a reason and he will be a perfect fit for our little family that we’re slowly assembling. If I remember correctly, King Mateo has two sons and a daughter. Elise has been to Bella’s kingdom once and was terrified of her. She was mostly terrified because of the stories that were once told about Bella and her people. I can only hope that after all these years that we can put aside her old fears, otherwise it may not be a very warm welcome.

Bella awakens from her nap and looks around curiously as she stares out the window. She crawls over Hollis’s lap to press her face to the glass, watching as the scenery changes from lush forest to beach like. A squeal of excitement leaves her lips as she commands the driver to stop. Without hesitation, she throws open the door and leaps out onto the sand. The minute her feet hit the ground; she shifts into her big black wolf. I can only imagine what the inhabitants of the Water Kingdom are thinking.

All they see is a massive black wolf running across the sand, heading toward the beach at breakneck speed. She doesn’t stop or stare or even give anything a second glance as she runs toward the water. It’s Bella’s first trip to the beach, and she’s never seen the ocean. Her wolf stops about thirty yards from the water itself and she shifts back to her human form. Thankfully, being a royal, she keeps her clothing between intended shifts. Otherwise, this would be an embarrassing moment. Her steps carry her slowly toward the edge of the water as the waves come crashing against the shore in almost a lulling pattern. Every step that carries her closer the slower she moves, hesitant to touch the water. She’s never seen the vastness of the ocean before and I guess part of it almost scares her or concerns her, since she’s never made contact with saltwater before.

Staring at the edge of the water, she finally let the first of the waves touch her toes and she squeals. Thankfully, before her nap, she remembered to take her shoes off, otherwise, she would have just ruined her favorite boots. Every wave that crashes on the shore now crashes over her bare feet, sending her into a fit of giggles. It’s adorable listening to her as she starts to actually live her best life. I can’t imagine what it was like for her growing up being trapped in that graveyard as its keeper all these years, never being allowed to explore the rest of the world that exists beyond her country’s borders.

I’m glad that Hollis and I can take her on this journey and get to witness her experiencing so many first for the first time in her life. We casually stroll up behind her as she strolls into the water. She’s about mid-calf now and that’s where she stops, letting the slow rolling waves gently crash against her knees. She’s watching the little fish as they swim in and out between her legs. Laughing at everything that’s around her is entertaining her to no end. I would never have thought that something so simple, so natural and so easily accessible would bring her so much joy.

I guess all those years of staring at the water, I’ve taken it for granted. I never got to see it for the beauty that it truly is. Now, seeing it through my mate’s eyes, it amazes me. It’s such a natural wonder that I didn’t even realize its beauty until my love stood in it and experience it for the first time. Eventually, she turns around and smiles the most brilliant smile that I’ve ever seen grace her lips since we’ve met her. She turns back toward the water and bends down, pulling up a seashell. It’s not just any seashell, it looks like it’s an old snail shell. The intricate spirals and the pattern on the shell are breathtaking. She holds it close to her and then the water pours out and she screams because of the cold water hitting her chest.
