The head chef! Relief poured through me that I might still make it out of this without actually being caught.

Garrett cleared his throat, and I hoped it was dark enough that the chef couldn’t see too much—like the bulge in Garrett’s pants. “No need to apologize. It was quite last minute. Perhaps I should come along with you to the kitchen?”

“Oh, I don’t want to disturb your date—”

“No problem at all,” Garrett said quickly. “Come, let’s see what we can figure out.”

Somehow, he managed to steer the chef around the corner and back through the door without him seeing me—or at least without him seeing my face. He likely wouldn’t know who I was, nor would he really care since Garrett was supposed to be on a date with one of the contestants.

The door slammed shut behind them, and I moved over to the table, my legs unsteady. The smart thing to do would be to rush back to my room and not take any chances of someone else discovering me here. But I could barely breathe, barely believe what just happened.

And my body was humming, throbbing, aching for release.

I sat down in one of the chairs. I couldn’t remember when I’d ever felt this turned on, and I was pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about it until I found release.

My breath hitching, I moved my hands to my pants, still open from Garrett’s handiwork. Slowly, I slipped my fingers inside, brushing up against my wetness.

Oh God. My head fell back, and I moaned softly, remembering how it felt to have Garrett’s fingers on my body. It didn’t take much of a stretch of the imagination to pretend my fingers were his. I stroked slowly, my heart thundering wildly at the exquisite pleasure.

Was I really doing this, out here on the rooftop where anyone could discover me? But they wouldn’t. No one hardly ever came up here, and the staff would know that Garrett had a date here tonight, or that he was supposed to.

Knowing I wouldn’t take long to reach a release—as I was already hanging on by a thread—I began moving my fingers more rapidly, teasing my pussy lips before pushing one finger then two inside. I cried out, Garrett's name on my lips as I pleasured myself, imagining it was him making me feel so good.

I writhed in my chair, my hips moving in time with my fingers, and when I rolled my thumb over my clit, I came undone, my body clenching and spasming, waves of bliss rolling through me.

“I almost missed the show.” Garrett’s voice came from the shadows. “But luckily, I got here just in time for the climax.”

I jerked upright, eyes wide as I yanked my hand from my pants, my cheeks burning with embarrassment. He’d come back so soon… or I’d enjoyed myself for too long.

Quickly, I pushed to my feet, even though my knees were still unsteady. Panicking that I’d been caught—calling out his name, no less—I fumbled with my pants, struggling to get everything back in place. When he stepped into the light, it took everything in me not to look away in humiliation.

“Just taking matters into my own hands,” I said, my tone clipped. “No need to worry about me now.” I brushed past him, needing to put as much distance between us as possible.

“Jessica, wait,” he called out behind me, but I was already racing down the stairs, berating myself for being such an idiot.

I got back to my room in record time and leaned back against the door. What was I thinking? Not only had I crashed his date—because if I were being honest, there had been no need for me to go up there in the first place to check on him—but I’d then become putty in his hands. After I’d just told myself what a bad idea it was, how we could never be together, and that I was keeping him from his real purpose with the Contention.

I groaned, burying my face in my hands. We’d nearly been caught! I was only lucky that Garrett had hidden me in time then gotten the chef out quickly. But the worst part of all was that he’d caught me with my pants down—literally.

I couldn’t believe it. He’d seen me getting myself off thinking about him. There was no denying that, not when I’d been moaning his name.

I paced my room, my mind racing. What was wrong with me? Why was I behaving like this? I knew better. Not only was my job on the line here if I got caught, but the future of the packs as well. There was a higher purpose to this Contention. Garrett and Holden both needed this to work to get the other packs on board with their plans. And here I was, throwing everything away because I couldn’t resist Garrett.

Maybe I should resign from running the Contention. I definitely needed to talk with Garrett about letting things go this far. But the idea of telling him we had to stop this behavior made my heart go into a panicked frenzy. I couldn’t deny it anymore—I wanted him badly. I’d never wanted a man so much in my life.

Why did it have to behim, though? The one man I couldn’t have.

I stopped in my tracks at a quiet knock on my door. I knew who was on the other side of it. Just as I knew I shouldn’t answer.

But keeping true to my recent habits, I went against my better judgement and walked to the door, only hesitating for a second with my hand on the knob. The moment I opened it, the breath rushed from my lungs.

Garrett was standing there, his eyes wild as he took me in. A second later, he pushed me backwards, kicked the door shut, hauled ame up against his rock-hard body, and then kissed me as if his life depended on it.

GARRETT

Icrushed Jessica’s body against my own, barely hanging on to my sanity. As our lips met, ravenous hunger took over, a desperation like I’d never felt in my life. I needed this woman, and I needed her right fucking now.
