Regardless of how she felt about me.

Which, clearly, was still not very good.

I guess some part of me figured that, eventually, she would lose the sharp edges to her anger.

But my Ama, yeah, she not only had a temper, but she could hold a grudge.

“Seeley,” Huck’s voice called, pulling me out of my thoughts.

“Sorry,” I said, shaking my head. “What was that?”

“I said we need to set up a meeting, as a crew, to meet this international arms dealer. I want everyone’s opinions before we decide to jump headfirst into this.”

"Right. Yeah. I have that… thing Wednesday night, but other than that, I’m open.”

Huck’s jaw tightened at the reminder. Because, no matter how much I’d proven myself capable, how much I knew he respected me and my abilities, he still worried about me. Especially when I was on a job without my brothers.

“Right. I was thinking next week anyway. We still have to wrap up that one other small drop,” he added. “Donovan, Alaric, and Cato,” he added, giving me a break for once.

I knew I was the most senior member who wasn’t off having a life with a wife and kids. So it was my place to lead most of the drops. But it was nice to get a break here and there as well.

“Got it,” Donovan said, nodding, ready to step into a leadership role.

“Can I come in yet?” Eddie asked, peeking his head in the door.

“Yeah. You got any containers around here to take some food back to Harmon with?” Huck asked.

Technically, it was Huck’s house.

But we all knew… it was Eddie’s kitchen.

Everything in it was his.

Including the Tupperware.

With that, the two of them packed up enough food for a small army because, as Eddie said, “Over my dead body will you be eating frozen chicken nuggets.”

“Damn it, man. Remy is going to kill me,” Donovan grumbled when the bird, Mackie, snagged another chip before rushing back up to the top of his stand to munch on it.

“Alright. I’m out. You know where to find me,” Huck said with his insulated bag loaded down with goodies. “And Levee, here,” he said, slapping a sticky note to Levee’s chest. “Give her a call. She can send some chicks your way.”

With that, he was gone.

“Whose number is this?” Levee asked, looking at it.

Glancing over, I recognized it.

“That’s his sister Gus’s number. She used to party hard down here before she moved up to marry a guy in the mother chapter. She knows everyone. She can find some chicks who’d like to come and hang by the pool.”

“Well, this day has certainly taken a turn for the better,” Levee said, finishing off his food, then rushing to make the call.

He was right.

The day had taken a turn for the better.

Unfortunately for me, though, the week wouldn’t keep up with the same vibe.

Leaving me stumbling into the clinic covered in my own blood.
