“And that’s fine,” I remarked. “Maybe we have nothing to worry about. What I do know is that I don’t want you going anywhere alone, especially with Finn.”

“I agree with you. That’s why I called Annika earlier and told her she had to come to Fightanium to train on Monday and Tuesday.” We had yet to talk about her plans for Wednesday.

“Call me a jealous boyfriend all you want,” I began, “but ...”

Reagan held up a hand. “Whoa, hold that thought.” She turned off the shower and grabbed a towel off the wall rack. “So, you’re my boyfriend now?” she asked, grinning wide and wrapping the towel around her body. “I don’t remember giving you that title.”

I smirked back at her. “I earned it. I’ve been fighting for you for years.”

“More like annoyed me for years,” Reagan snorted.

Grabbing her wrist, I pulled her to me, her skin still hot and damp from the shower. “You know you loved it.” She smiled up at me, and I kissed her. “So, what do you say? Do I have the title?”

Reagan stared into my eyes, all kidding aside. “If you want it, it’s yours.”

“Then, I’ll take it.” I had no doubt she would be angry at me for what I was about to do next, but it was for her own good. After pressing my lips to hers once more, I let her go. “I’m going to run out to my car and get my phone charger. I’ll be right back.”

She smiled. “Okay. I’ll get dressed, pack an overnight bag, and then we can head to the movie theater.” She walked over to her dresser, and I took off down the hall to the front door. Once outside, I pulled out my phone and hurried down the stairs. I didn’t need my phone charger; I needed distance from Raegan so she couldn’t hear me. I pressed call on Seth’s number, and the line rang and rang, but eventually, he answered.

“I had a feeling I was going to hear from you,” Seth said.

If I had my way, I’d lock Reagan up and not let her go to the fights on Wednesday. Unfortunately, it’d push her away from me and I didn’t want that. All I could hope for now was a compromise.

“Reagan’s watching the fights on Wednesday night. She wants to show Annika support. And for fuck’s sake, I don’t know why. The last thing I want is her going with Sellinger,” I threw out.

“I can agree with you there,” Seth said. “I don’t like how invested he is with her.”

I walked over to my car. “What do you know about him?”

He sighed. “He’s a smart businessman. We were around each other a lot back in New York, but we were never friends. Our fathers worked together on several building projects. Besides, he’s not erratic and impulsive like my brother. However, I saw a side of him last night that concerned me. He was extremely protective of Reagan when I touched her.”

“Yeah, I don’t like you touching her either.”

Seth scoffed. “It wasn’t like that, and you know it. I wanted her to know that the Sellingers’ protection doesn’t come without a price.” I could only imagine what that fucker wanted from her. He sure as hell wasn’t going to get it.

“This is where I need your help,” I stated, hoping my plan worked. “Can Reagan beyourguest at the fights? I don’t want her going with Finn.”

“She doesn’t have to go with anyone, Emerson. Reagan can drive herself, and I’ll watch over her. The guys guarding the doors will give her clearance to get in; they know who she is. But if Finn wants her and she’s seen coming with me, he’ll see it as a challenge. I already told her I would not start a war with the Sellingers. Now, if I wanted her to be mine, that’s a different story.”

It was a good thing he didn’t want her; there would be an all-out war.

“I have one other suggestion,” I added.

Seth’s grumble echoed through the phone. “I think I know where you’re going with this. Are you sure it’s what you want to do?” All I cared about was making sure Reagan was safe.

“Yes. I’ll do anything for Reagan.”

“Okay. Just be prepared.” Those were his last words before the call ended.

I already was.

CHAPTER24

REAGAN

It felt good to get back to Fightanium; it was home. Braden made himself scarce when Annika showed up for her training, busying himself with other things. Carter didn’t show up at the gym, and I was thankful he didn’t because he would’ve seen my bruised cheek. I hoped it’d be gone by Thursday when I picked Emma up to head to the airport.

She still had no clue where I was taking her. Neither did Braden. I’d kept it a secret from everyone. Out of all the places I could’ve taken Emma, I’d decided on Warren, Vermont, where we’d be staying in a quaint house along the Mad River. The population was less than two thousand. There were more than that here in a quarter-mile radius. There wasn’t much to do in Warren besides relax, but that was what Emma wanted. Hell, it was what Ineeded.
