“This is our third time running into each other. First the coffee incident yesterday morning, then she was at the club last night, and now, here at the hospital tonight.”

“I wonder who else she is here to see?”

It isn’t until Scarlett mentions this that I think about the reason Molly is at the hospital, and I wonder what is happening in her life that has her here on a Sunday. I grunt in reply. I’m not ready to talk to anyone about Molly any further, not even Scarlett. We reach the private wing of the hospital and I start to get settled into my new room, which I must say is roomier than the last. It is bigger, cleaner, brighter and whiter, and has a window that faces the river. The only thing missing is the beautiful woman curled up on the chair next to me.

Scarlett and Shaun stay for another hour or so and leave during the early evening, after I tell them I am fine for the hundredth time. Due to hospital protocol because I have had a head injury, I need to remain here overnight for observation. I am feeling fine now; I still have thumping in my head, but that isn’t unusual. It has only been over the past few days where I have felt any relief from that and that is when Molly is near me. It is quiet in my room; this floor is restricted to only a few patients at a time. Healthcare when you have money is amazingly different to what support you receive when you don’t have insurance or any funds to support your own level of care.

It is not until I put Molly out of my mind and think about work that I appreciate that this is the first night away from the club in almost two years. I have worked every night, seven days a week, in some capacity, since I purchased the clubs from Shaun. I am due to fly out to New York tomorrow, but that trip will have to happen later in the week. The priority now is on finding out who attacked me and why.

Shaun is working with Jake tonight to get the video footage from the club which we plan to review tomorrow morning once I am out of here. Jake has also reached out to his contact in the local police force so we can make the necessary reports. In the meantime, we have increased our security at the club and around myself, Shaun, and Scarlett, just to be on the safe side. Shaun even has a guy at the front of my hospital room, such is our need for protection and our desire for safety. I also still need to review the footage from last night, to see how Jasmine got into the club, but our front door team have all been replaced and stricter protocols have been introduced to keep underage people out of the club from here on out - no question.

I hear a small knock at the door and look up to see Molly poking her head around, and my mood immediately brightens. It is late, but I welcome her in, wanting her ray of sunshine in my life any way I can get it.

“Hey,” she says quietly, almost shy in her demeanor.

“Hey, come in,” I welcome her quickly, not wanting her to have a change of heart and leave.

“I thought I would quickly check on you to see if you need anything and to make sure you are okay?” She tentatively makes her way into the room, keeping a small distance between herself and my bed.

She is stunning. Effortlessly beautiful with perfect skin, big eyes, and a slight blush to her cheeks, which is fucking adorable. She has changed her clothes; she is now in black jeans and a cozy looking white jumper, making her look like the soft, delicate angel she is.

Her hair is piled into the top knot that I love with whisps hanging down the sides of her face again. This time, though, she has black-rimmed glasses on, which intrigues me, having not seen them on her before.

“I’m good. It’s late, why are you still here at the hospital?” I ask, knowing that she isn’t here just for me as much as I would like her to be.

She sighs. “My gran is in a room downstairs and is not very well. I have been here with her since 8am this morning, so it’s been a long day,” she says, trying to stifle a yawn. I mentally do the calculations; she didn’t leave the club last night until about 2am, meaning that she has had very little sleep for over a day now.

“Are you all right? You should try to sleep?” I say, really wanting to grab her and pull her next to me and lie with her in my bed right here, right now. She smiles and takes a seat in the chair next to my bed.

“I am okay. Gran is sleeping, so before I call it a night, I wanted to see how you are feeling.”

Her words comfort me. Aside from Scarlett, I haven’t had the care of a woman in my life for a very long time. It feels nice. We talk for the next half an hour about Jasmine and Nitro, and I am not surprised that we immediately get along. Both feeling at ease with each other. I am about to ask her out for lunch the next day, but I am interrupted when the doctor who was flirting with Molly earlier today walks in. His head is down as he looks over the notes on his clipboard.

“Mr. Sullivan, I am doing my last round for the night and just need to check your vitals. How are you feeling?” The doctor looks up from his paperwork and spots Molly.

“Molly,” he says and then walks to her, placing a hand on her shoulder, his fingers rubbing her sweater, making me want to jump out of bed and rip them off his hand one by one.

“Hi, Byron. Sorry, I was just visiting my friend here, I will go and leave you to it, I don’t want to be in the way.” Molly glances quickly at me, gives me a small smile and says, “Have a good night.”

“Molly, I will be down to see you soon, I will bring coffee,” he says in a manner that reflects familiarity and I don’t like it.

“Just don’t spill it on her, Doc,” I say, Molly starts to giggle, and I smirk, enjoying the fact that we can share an inside joke. Molly laughing is something new, and I take a moment to admire the sound and the look on her face when she is happy, because it is not lost on me that the past times we have met she has not been smiling. Now that I have seen it, I decide to make it my personal mission to make her smile and laugh more often.

Molly leaves and the doctor “Byron” starts looking over my chart as a nurse comes in to assist.

“Well, Stephen, this all looks fine and as mentioned, we will keep you in tonight just for observation. I will be back in the morning, and assuming you have a good night, I can discharge you then.” I nod as he turns his attention to the nurse.

“Nurse Tyler, can you please take Stephen’s blood pressure and temperature and make a note in his file, I have to go and see Molly.”

And like a punch to the gut, the air leaves my body, and Byron walks out with a smirk on his face.

MOLLY

It has been another long night, and my body is aching as I wake up in the morning with a kink in my neck from sleeping in the chair in gran’s hospital room.
