After spending a few months getting the diner up to scratch, I moved my building skills to Danny’s cabin. I gutted it, have expanded it, and added more bedrooms, additional bathrooms, a larger living and kitchen space, and of course, added security. It is now a fully operational guest house. In the few months since it has been finished, it has never been empty. All the boys have been here and continue to holiday here with us every few months. At the moment, Stephen and Molly are staying and having a great time in the peaceful woods we call home.

I sit up at the counter and Belle sees me. Giving me a wide smile, she walks around to me, and I grab her around the waist. I never not take a moment to touch her. I was so close to losing her that I touch her every chance I get.

You could say that this grouchy bear has turned into a soft teddy bear. The boys continue to pick on me at darts every Monday about how pussy whipped I am. And they are not wrong.

“Want some pie, babe?” she asks me as I grab her ass and give it a squeeze.

“You know I do, baby girl.” Before she can leave, I grab her head and pull her to me, and kiss her like she is my lifeline, because she is.

Pulling away, she looks at me, still grinning, the extreme happiness we both now feel is perhaps the best I have ever felt.

I look around Danny’s Diner, taking in all the patrons, and as I scan the room, my eyes land on the small, framed letter that we hung on the wall, right next to the large, framed photo of Danny.

It is Danny’s last letter to me, those seven words that changed my life, showing me that even from the grave, his lasting legacy that he left me was the most precious gift of all.
