Trystan nodded. “We might have to move in with Mum for a while. She’ll already have taken bookings for the cottage.”

Beth crinkled her nose. “I happen to know that she hasn’t.”

“What?”

“Kit accidentally let slip that your mum had kept the cottage free in case we decided to move here.”

“Are you serious?”

“Yes.” She laughed as he shook his head. “And I don’t think we can really be annoyed with her about it.”

“She’s going to be so smug,” he said, but his eyes twinkled with amusement. He hugged her so hard that he lifted her off the ground, making her laugh loudly. “Happy New Year, by the way.”

“Happy New Year,” she replied, rubbing her nose against his as he set her back down.

As they set off hand in hand up the beach, anticipation fizzed in her stomach at the thought of telling Ellie their plans.

The year had only just begun, but she had a feeling it was going to be a great one.
