“I did,” she admitted. “I can definitely see what the fuss is all about.”

If she wasn’t already a melting mess for Jack Hayes, a line like that would surely have done the trick.

JACK
Smiling, Jack stared at the ceiling in his bedroom. The only thing that would make this morning better was if Nora was beside him, but after cuddling her for a few hours after their sexual encounter, he walked her home.
Not that he would’ve done anything Nora wasn’t ready for, but sleeping the full night beside her would have made keeping his hands to himself almost impossible.
Nora was responsive and sweet. She wanted to be pleased as much as she wanted to please, and that was a good thing. It meant she wasn’t a virgin because she was scared.

She had remained untouched because no man had ever dared to climb the wall of her shyness before.

If every man before him had been too cowardly to be with Nora, then it was very much to his benefit. His only regret now was that he hadn’t noticed Nora’s reserved nature for what it was before. It had lost them a lot of time, but he couldn’t be sad about that.
Now that he had found her and now that they were in each other’s lives, he would never be ready to say goodbye to her.
Good thing they were both the kind of people who wanted to spend the rest of their lives in Half Moon Key. It made this courtship a lot easier.
Even if he did still fear that his past would reach out for him and destroy what he had worked so hard to build in this wonderful small lakeside town.
Jack slowly got up and took his time getting ready for the day. One of his staff members was set to open the rental cabin for him that morning, and he was glad that he had thought of doing that before his date with Nora.
She might not have slept over, but she had gone back home at a very late hour. The naughty things they had done had him on cloud nine, but he didn’t want to ruin any of it with the gawking stares of the townsfolk. He wanted to keep this new relationship all to himself for a little while, even though he knew that he owed everything to Mrs. Francis, Jade, and Parker, who had all but forced them together.
That was the thing about Half Moon Key.
Sometimes, the other residents knew what you needed even before you did.
Jack poured himself a cup of coffee and flipped open his laptop. He had work to do that had nothing to do with the cabin.
His first real job was waiting for him on his computer.
On the word processing application, the little black cursor blinked at him.
“All right, RJ,” he mumbled to himself between sips of coffee. “What is your next book gonna be about?”
He contemplated the few ideas he had before he met Nora, but now that he knew how her mind worked, he was excited to write something that would completely take her by surprise. He wanted to write a mystery that would completely stump her.
