Amy grinned. “See, Josie? I told you your photography would pay off one day.”

“I can’t believe it. I actually have enough money now.” My heart raced.

“For what?”

As if she doesn’t know.

“My trip to Europe!” I squealed, feeling joyful for the first time in weeks. “I don’t have to wait anymore, and the timing couldn’t be more perfect.”

“So…you’re just going to leave?” Amy frowned. “What about your job?”

I sighed. “They’ve sold Maude, Ames.”

There was no element of surprise in her eyes. “And?”

“I don’t know what that means for everyone else, but as soon as Grayson’s parents find out he isn’t marrying Melanie, his father will destroy my career. I need to get away before it all goes pear-shaped.”

“So, what are you going to do?”

I smiled. “I’ll photograph my way through Europe and blog about everything I see. It’ll be like Capturing Love…but on the road.”

“That actually sounds amazing, but what about your apartment? And Luci…”

I looked over at her over-stuffed suitcase and back at Amy’s not-so-innocent face. “Ames, how would you feel about living here until I get back? My neighbour will help you with Luci…he can be a bit of a handful.”

“Luci or your neighbour?” she asked, with a cheeky smirk.

I laughed wholeheartedly. “I’ll leave that for you to find out.”

As our laughter died, Amy grew serious. She reached out and took my hand. “But what about Grayson, Jos?”

“Grayson’s not a factor,” I responded, nonchalantly, but Amy clearly sensed something else.

The doorbell rang and my stomach dropped.

“Speaking of…” Amy pressed her lips together and waited for me to move.

Crossing my arms, I sunk further into the couch, refusing to budge.

“You need to talk to him. He’s worried about you.”

I winced as the doorbell sounded again.

“Josie…” Amy’s shoulders dropped. “Don’t do this.”

I threw up my hands. “Do what?”

“Push him away. Just like you push everyone away.”

“I let you in, didn’t I?”

She snorted. “I didn’t give you a choice.”

“It’s easier this way,” I retorted, fiddling with my hair to avoid eye contact.

“Easier on who?”

“On both of us.”
