“It doesn’t sit well with me when the girl I like is called a crazy bitch.”

“Oh.” I drew in a shaky breath as my face warmed. “Well I did throw a shoe at you. That’s a little crazy…even for me.”

He shook his head with a chuckle. “You didn’t mean to throw the shoe, did you?”

“No!” I laughed as my blush deepened. “It just slipped out of my hand in the moment!”

Grayson smiled. “I thought so. You looked as surprised as I was.”

I winced. “I’m sorry…for the shoe…and for the hand.”

“You have nothing to be sorry for. I deserved the shoe and Craig deserved the split lip.”

“Did he retaliate?”

Grayson chuckled. “He wouldn’t dare. He works for my father.”

“So…that makes you…untouchable?”

“Something like that.”

Curiosity got the better of me. “Just how well-known is your family, anyway?”

“You’ve really never heard of us?” he asked, clearly amused.

I screwed up my nose. “Did your grandfather invent Post-it’s or something?”

Grayson laughed. “No, nothing that exciting.”

“All I know is that your real name is William, you’re from LA, and you have a bizarre affection towards penis shaped candy.” I peeked up at him with a cheeky grin.

His eyes sparkled back. “You didn’t look me up on the internet?”

I burst out laughing. “Are you serious? Did you look me up?”

He fell silent and ran his hand through his hair.

My voice softened. “I generally try to stay away from all that bullshit. I’m not even on social media.”

“I noticed,” he uttered, clearing his throat.

My cheeks warmed. He did look me up.

Grayson slipped on his sunglasses and stood, before taking our rubbish to the nearest bin. He returned a moment later, reaching for my hand. “Come on, let’s walk off those donuts.”

His fingers entwined with mine as we strolled along the tree-lined pathways from one side of the park to the other. “How did your article go?” he asked.

“To be honest, it was a struggle.”

“I’m sure Sabrina will love it.”

I cringed. “And how will Melanie take it?”

“Oh.” He chuckled. “Mel is going to lose her shit when she finds out.”

I peered up at him, dreading the answer to my next question. “She won’t try to sue us, will she?”

“I wouldn’t let her, even if she tried.”
