I shook my head. “Jesus, Gray.” I wanted to tell him to grow some balls, but the frown on his face made me reconsider.

“I’m trying my best here, Josie.”

I scoffed. “Really?”

“Under the current circumstances, yes.”

“Alright.” I sighed. “I’ll keep an eye out, but you need to do something for me.”

He stepped closer as the side of mouth quirked upwards, while his heated gaze traced the curves of my body. “What’s that?”

“You need to cool it with all this.” I motioned between the two of us. “I’m not going to risk my job for a roll in the hay with a Harlow.”

He frowned. “Do you really think that’s all this is?”

“Yes…I don’t know, isn’t it?…Argh!” This man was giving me a headache.

He shook his head as he turned to walk in the opposite direction. “Enjoy your pizza, Josie.”

I scrunched up my nose as he sauntered away, leaving me even more confused. “Pizza?”

Sure enough, my favourite pizza was waiting for me at Lenny’s when I arrived, courtesy of Grayson.

Grayson: How bad is it?

Josie: He fired Anton.

Grayson: Fuck. What happened?

Josie: He had a differing opinion.

Grayson: That would do it. How are you doing?

Josie: Fine.

Grayson: Fine?

Josie: Fine.

I didn’t want to elaborate. I was a big girl and could sort out my own problems. Since Adam’s return and Grayson’s departure, we were all suffering from whiplash. The office had regressed to what it was before; a miserable place to be.

“Josie, Mr. Harlow would like to speak with you in his office,” Linda whispered, from my open door.

I exhaled. “Okay.” He’d been watching me lately, so I expected to get pulled up for something eventually.

As I entered his office, he looked up from his desk with a blank face. “Josie, I understand you’re required to spend time out of the office, but coming in after lunch every day isn’t acceptable. I want you here by 9am like everyone else.”

My mouth fell open. With my new role covering music, I wasn’t getting home until at least 2am. That would only leave me approximately five hours to sleep before I’d have to get up for work. Fuck.

Normally I’d sleep until 10am, head to the park to take photographs and interview people for Capturing Love, before heading into the office just after lunch. I had it all sorted, and I was managing fine…until now. I should have pleaded my case, but Anton’s defeated face flashed through my mind and I thought better of it. I would just have to work out a new routine.

“Yes, Mr. Harlow.” I offered him a quick nod and turned on my heel.

“And Josie…please call me Adam.”
