Clearly aware of my avoidance tactics, Adam made his presence known in another way. A way that had me hot and bothered, resulting in multiple cold showers.

Each time I left my room, I’d return to discover a little note slipped under my door.

The first one read:

Once my initial confusion subsided, my cheeks filled with heat. Equally mortified and aroused, I scurried over to my nightstand and flicked through the pages of the book until I found it. Another underlined sex scene with an adjoining smiley face.Damn.

The following one read:

Another sex scene, steamier than the first.Verydescriptive.

Wow.

Then, the night before he was leaving:

Fuck me dead.It was too much for my libido to handle.

I slammed the book shut, but it wasn’t long before I was peeking back at the words and turning the lights down low. It was going to be a long night.

“You’re still here.” I stopped dead in my tracks as I pushed Liam back into his room after another beautiful sunrise.

Adam was relaxed on the couch, holding his laptop. “I thought I’d work from here this week.” He smirked up at my wide eyes. “Turns out, I enjoy the quiet.”

And torturing me, no doubt.

“Glad to see you taking a break, Adam,” Liam said as I positioned him beside the window.

“I don’ttakebreaks, Gramps.” Adam typed something into his computer before looking up. “Now that I’ve upgraded your terrible internet, I can yell at people through the screen just as well as I can in person.” He grinned. “While spending more time with you, of course.”

My heart lit up.Faster internet?I’d finally be able to have a proper conversation with Finn.

“Plus,” he continued, running his fingers through his hair. “I think all the travel is getting to me.”

Or the grief. It was rolling off him, and he had no idea.

Liam smiled softly. “Well, I’m not complaining. Having you around makes me feel young again.”

I remained focused on Liam to avoid any eye contact with his grandson. “Shall I tell Max you’re ready for breakfast?”

“That would be lovely, Cassidy. Will you be joining me today? Adam, you’re welcome also.”

“Sounds great!” Adam’s tone was peppier than usual, making me suspicious.

“I’ll grab a bite later.” I placed my hand on Liam’s shoulder. “I have some calls to make, but I’ll return soon. I promised Nora I’d have you back in bed before Marc arrives.”

“Marc?” Adam’s eyes panned from mine to Liam. “Don’t you mean Doctor Morrison?”

“Oh, Adam, don’t be so formal. Marc is a lovely man who happens to be quite taken with our Cassidy here.”
