“It does.” Raising my head from the bed, I pause and take notice of our arrangement. We’re naked and laying on a bed inside my family’s home; his head currently using my stomach as a pillow. How he got us inside or knew this space was mine? I have no clue, but thank the Gods he didn’t use anyone else’s room to crash.

We’re also no longer connected, something that makes me blush—the memory of his knot causing goose bumps to rise across my skin.

“Why?” The amusement in his tone causes me to meet his stare. Almost as if he knows where my thoughts drifted to. “Tell me what surprises you?”

“Well, to start off…” I lick my bottom lip, a little nervousness settling in. He picks up on this and gives my thigh a squeeze, a low purr greeting me a second later. “That’s not fair.”

“Not meant to be.” Admits this with no shame. “One of my jobs as your mate is to bring you comfort, Little Moon. My call was made to resonate only with you.”

“Is it crazy that I kind of like that?”

“Not at all.” Turning his face into my abdomen, he bites me. Just a quick nip. “It pleases me greatly to take care of you in any way. Just like the tattoo on your thigh is an honor. It’s beautiful.”

“Thank you. I’ve had it for quite some time.”

“How long?”

I blush. “A year.”

“How? If you don’t mind me asking.” Another soft caress across the marking and I shiver. Hiding my reactions to him are near impossible. Just can’t.

“It came after a dream. My first of you.” Licking my lips, I look away and pretend to be searching for something. He’s guilt-ridden enough and doesn’t need the details of that painful experience or the recent one. “I’ve had many with you.”

“I like that you do and have, won’t deny it. It’s sexy.” Playfully, he snaps his teeth at me. “Now, ask me whatever you need to.”

“How old are you?”

His laughter booms, shaking my entire body and bed frame. “That’s what you’re nervous about? You’re absolutely adorable.”

“That’s not an answer, Alpha King.”

His amusement dies at once. “Please don’t call me that. I don’t want titles between us.”

“Even when I ask you for my mating bite?” My grin is coy and I know I’m blushing, but he needs to know I’m not trying to push him away by using it. “It might not be tomorrow…I need time, but someday.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.” No sooner has the word slipped past my lips, than we’re face to face. His naked body is over mine with a hard cock between us. “Hi.”

“So pretty.” Xadiel lowers his mouth and pecks me gently. Once, twice…four times. “The day you do, I’ll be both honored and harder than steel. Elated and thanking the goddess because I didn’t lose you.”

“You didn’t.” The truth. One he deserves to know. “I just need to process and forget.”

“I’ll wait.” I find no annoyance or deceit in his eyes.

“Thank you.”

“Never thank me for giving you what you need, even if it’s time. Okay?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Cheeky. I like it.”

A giggle slips from me. “Dork.”

“No. I’m a ninety-year-old werewolf who found his mate and wants to lay the world at her dainty feet.” He looks down at the scabbed-over bite mark with longing. I feel his regret. “I’m a man who’s never touched another woman because I knew it’d hurt my female. Because she’d be worth waiting for, and you’re more than special, Isabella. You’re everything.”
