“I was already working for Fabian,” she continues, “He didn’t know I hated the Burlusconis, but I knew how much his family did. They already had an in, the Morrettis had been supplying girls to the ranch for years. Eyes and ears that the Burlusconis knew nothing about.”

I look at the gun in her hand and wonder if I could kick it lose, but Fabian’s hold on me is too tight, I won’t be able to fight him off.

“I worked hard, became the best he had, and I earned my place visiting the ranch. I’d built a good friendship with you, I listened to your stories about the man who broke your heart. And I’ll be honest, Evvy, I didn’t fully believe you. I thought you were just another victim of the Burlusconi lies. It’s the reason I never pushed for you to work for Fabian, I took pity on you because I thought we had something in common. There were times when I really wanted to be your friend. You have to believe that, Evelyn.” She stares at me with her big brown eyes, and I try really hard to find some empathy in them as I nod back at her.

“The night, when I arrived at the ranch, I was going to kill him. I had it all planned out, give him the sedative, tie him to the bed and have his father find him the next day. But things didn't go to plan. Raoul doesn’t give his women as much attention as he gives to you,” she says spitefully.

“He didn’t want a drink with me first like most clients do. He wanted to get straight to business.” She looks over her shoulder at him, and I notice how ashamed he looks when she smirks at him.

“I let him use my body the same way he did all the others. I submitted for him, and I thought about all the ways I would kill him while I did it. Then something happened, Evelyn, and it completely sealed your fate.” Kendra brushes the gun over my cheek.

“Raoul said your name,” she whispers with a vacant smile.

“He said it right before he came all over my tongue, and it sounded so fucking desperate and needy, that I knew I could take away so much more than his life. You were my opportunity to make him suffer the same way I had… and I’m so sorry that you have to be the lamb that gets slaughtered.”

I suck in a huge gulp of air as the gun fires, and I hear Raoul scream, “Noooo!”
