THREE YEARS AGO

“Make it stop.”

A female voice confirms that the annoying buzz I’m hearing ain’t just in my head. Reaching over the body that’s anchoring me to the mattress, I feel through the empty condom wrappers on the nightstand until I locate my cell.

“Yep?” I force the word past my dry throat before I even attempt to open my eyes and check the caller ID.

I doubt I’ll be able to focus on it anyway, my head is pounding like Squealer in a fuckin’ brothel.

“Hey kid.”

I scrub my face with my palm to sober up when I hear my brother’s voice.

“What ya done now?” Autumn only ever calls when he’s in trouble, and it’s far too early to be dealing with his kinda shit.

I sit up, and Krissy’s body slips off my chest, she doesn’t wake up though, just stirs a little before she rolls over sleepily and nestles her naked body into Mel’s.

Mel…

How the fuck did she work her way into this little scenario?

“Why does me calling have to mean I’ve done something bad? I could just be checking in.”

The long silence I hit him back with eventually prompts him to tell me the real reason he’s calling.

“Okay, so shit didn’t work out in Louisiana,” he confesses, “Brothers there are far too precious about sharing shit,” he starts to explain.

Against all my better judgment, I introduced my older brother to the club a few years ago. I did it to save his fucking ass after he landed himself in some serious shit, but the two of us have never been close.

Trouble with Autumn is, he ain’t a people person. He rubs a lot of people up the wrong way, and I swear the only thing that’s kept him in the club is his efficiency to get a job done, and the fact he rides Nomad.

“Just letting ya know, I’ll be headin’ off the radar for a few weeks until shit simmers down.”

“How bad is it?” I ignore the voice in my head that tells me I don’t want to know.

“Put it this way, I don’t think you boys will be needin’ to ride out here for Axel's wedding next week.”

“Fuck.”

“It’s the kinda shit that happens when you try makin’ an old lady out of a stripper. If you ask me, I did the guy a favor.” Autumn’s lack of remorse has my eyes rolling.

“Get out of town. I’ll wait a few days for the dust to settle, then I’ll call Axel,” I tell him, already wondering how the fuck I’m gonna get him out of this one.

One day, I might even tell him to fix his own crap.

“You’re one of the good ones, kid,” Autumn tells me, hanging up before I have the chance to say goodbye.

“Come back to bed, baby.” Mel’s talons graze over the skin on my back, her other hand reaching over Krissy to get a grip on the semi I’ve woken up with.

Fuck that shit, bitch may have caught me off guard when I was wasted, but I ain’t about to make that mistake twice.

“I got somewhere I need to be,” I lie, scrambling over the pair of them and rushing to pull on my jeans.

“You could at least stay for breakfast,” Mel looks at me seductively as she slides her fingers between her legs and spreads her pussy lips open for me.

“I ain’t a breakfast kinda guy,” grabbing my cut off the chair, I rush to get the hell out of there.

The open air has my head feeling like a punching bag, there’s only one way to cure a hangover this bad, and that'll be to sweat the fucker out of me. So, I ride out of Sluts sanctuary, up the track to the cabin that I share with Jessie.
