“I don’t know ‘bout you but I need a fuckin’ drink,” Nyx says, landing a bunch of pillows in Thorne's arms as he steps toward us.

“There’s about twenty of them in total,” Thorne informs us. “Some of the men are hanging back to keep watch at the village. You got any news on Prez?”

“Nothing,” I shake my head back at him.

“You made the right call, helping them is the only way we’re gonna stop the shit storm that’s moving in on us. Maybe when we save that stubborn chief of theirs, he might see sense.”

“Where do you need me?” Nyx’s old lady, Ella, interrupts our impromptu closet meeting.

“What you doin’ down here? You should be sleeping.” Nyx shoves past me and his brother to lift his kid off Ella’s hip, while his other hand slides over the tiny bump that sticks out over her jeans.

“Dylan woke up, and when I checked my phone I saw your text. I couldn’t get back to sleep knowing all this was going on. These women must be petrified, they need to see friendly faces. So I’m helping.” Ella's eyes dare Nyx to argue with her.

“Fine, you can stay, but no lifting, or stretching or—”

“Nyx, we spoke about this,” she cuts him off. “Dylan, you stay with Daddy and Uncle Brax. Okay?” Ruffling his blonde hair, she takes the pillows out of Thorne's hands and heads off down the corridor to go help settle our new guests.

“Fuckin’ women.” Brax waits until Ella’s out of ear shot. “I swear they were sent to crucify us.” He rolls his eyes before screwing his nose up at his nephew and tickling his tummy. Then he quickly pulls that hard expression back on his face and gets back to unloading supplies.

I spend the next few hours making sure everyone is comfortable, the Doc is flat out dealing with injuries and the whole club is bustling with people. It ain’t until my stomach grumbles from a smell in the kitchen that I realize how long it’s been since I ate.

Marilyn and Maddy are preparing breakfast for the masses, with some of the tribe women pitching in to help out.

People have been coming and going all night, and I’ve only caught a few glimpses of Shaniya in passing. I see her now though, sitting, cuddling one of the children in the corner of the room. She looks shattered, and her feet are filthy from dirt and dried blood. I move toward her, snatching up a plate from the counter on my way and loading it up with scrambled eggs and some turkey rashers from the massive tray Marilyn’s laid out.

“You should eat something,” I tell her, my tall body hovering over hers. I lower the plate, feeling the full force of those big blue eyes when they look up at me from under her eyelashes.

“Thank you.” She smiles at me gratefully, taking the plate from my hands.

“When you’ve finished eating that, you can take a shower back at my place.”

“I’d rather discuss how we’re going to get my uncle back,” she starts, feeding a fork full of eggs to the child on her lap.

“You can’t take care of these people if you ain't taking care of yourself,” I point out to her.

“But—”

“But nothin’, Prez will be back later on today. For now, these people are safe. So you can get some rest yourself while we wait for him.” The nod of her head tells me she’s too weak to argue and that comes as a relief, because one way or another, the girl is getting a shower and some sleep. Even if that means I have to drag her out of here, put her under my shower, and then get something from the doc to knock her out.

I do a final sweep of the room, making sure everyone has what they need before I go back to find her half an hour later.

“Come with me.” I reach out and take her hand, touching her feels fuckin’ good, and I lead her out of the dining hall, down the stairs then outside to my bike.

“You want me to mount that thing again?” she asks, staring at the saddle and looking worried.

“You didn’t enjoy the last ride?” I grin.

“I had little choice,” she answers sadly, reminding me of how insensitive I’m being.

Shit.

“I’ll take it nice and steady,” I promise, guiding her on behind me. Her arms wrap around the trunk of my body, gripping me like her life depends on me, and when her tiny nervous pants tickle the skin on the back of my neck, my cock hardens.

As promised, I take the ride up to my cabin slow, then parking up outside I lead her through the door.

I wasn’t expecting company when I left for the club last night, and a guy’s cabin when he lives alone ain’t always a pretty sight. I feel a little embarrassed as her eyes wander around her new surroundings.

“You take a shower. I’ll work on getting you some clean clothes.” I pull her through to the bathroom, and just as I’m about to give her some privacy she blurts out my name.
