Prez nods his head like he’s finally seeing my logic.

“I’ll reach out to Ivan, request a meeting. We’ll bargain for the chief.” He shakes his head. “Shit could get messy, so you two are coming with me. Best get the fuckin’ temper twins on board too.”

“What about the others?” Jess asks.

“They stay here. I don’t trust that asshole not to set up an attack on this place knowing we ain’t around,” Prez answers.

Shaniya picks this fuckin’ moment to come out of my bedroom, her lips parted in a yawn that makes it impossible not to envision my cock sliding through them. When her arms lift above her head, they stretch my shirt over the pretty little tits that I have no fucking plans on sharing with Prez or Jessie.

“Would you look at what we have here?” Prez says sarcastically. Looking at Jessie with wide eyes. “Looks like Troj here’s been sampling some of the native culture for himself.”

“You’re back!” Shaniya says, quickly dropping her arms but doing nothing to cover her chest. “Men came, they took my uncle. We need to—”

“Leave it to us, Princess Tiger-lily. I’m gonna set up a meeting that will hopefully get your uncle back. Then we're all gonna sit down and figure a way to crush those cunts like ants.”

Shaniya stuns him when she rushes toward him and wraps her arms around his neck. Her body press’s tightly into his and I have to ignore the glint in his eyes. It's my job to protect him, not fucking throttle him.

“Come on, Jessie, no rest for the wicked.” Prez pulls himself away from her, and with a dirty wink at me, he heads for the door. “Hurry up and finish things off. We have lots to discuss,” he says, closing it behind him. I want to correct him for passing Shaniya off like she’s some club whore, but there ain’t time for that now.

Everyone here will know she’s off-limits soon enough… because there's one thing that’s come out of this huge fuckin’ mess that I’ve just decided ain’t up for negotiation.

She is gonna be mine.

Hearing Troj’s leader confirm he’ll help us made me so happy, I had to show him my appreciation. I notice Troj shifts awkwardly after both the men leave, and he quickly marches into the bedroom, returning a few seconds later with the fluorescent pink underwear garment scrunched in his hand.

“You need to put this on before we head back down, and I’ll find you something to put on your feet.” He holds it out for me, and I look from his hand to my chest. Our women never wear them, but I guess while we live under these people’s roofs, it’s only polite to adorn their ways.

“Sure.” I shrug, taking it from his hand and making my way to the bathroom to try and figure out how to put the thing on. A lot of fiddling and some adjusting later, I come back out with his T-shirt back in place, and Troj smiles at me before insisting that I eat some toast.

Then, after going in search for shoes that will fit me, we finally leave the cabin. When we get back to the club, everyone seems much calmer. The outlaws have made sure everyone is comfortable and most of the children are getting some sleep.

“I’ve gotta go to church, darlin’, you stick around here with your friends.” It isn’t until Troj pulls his hand away from mine that I realize I’ve been clutching it.

Did he just say church? I had no idea the outlaws were religious people, it only proves you shouldn’t judge.

“What’s happening?” Tayen asks, settling baby Harak and coming toward me. She looks worn out, I doubt she’s managed to get any sleep due to worrying.

“They’re going to help us get Uncle back. Their leader, the Prez, says he can arrange a meeting with the man who took him,” I assure her, and Tayen looks just as relieved as I was to hear the news.

“Calian left earlier, the men are taking turns to guard the village. Though, I don’t know how we can protect ourselves from such evil. We could have lost Kele, if it wasn’t for him.” Tears form in her eyes as she looks across the room to where Troj is talking to Jessie. The vision of him coming out of the fire clutching onto Kele distracts me for a few seconds.

“Hey, you didn’t lose him and we’re safe now. We have to trust these people,” I remind her.

“That's not going to be easy for everyone, not after all the things your uncle has told them over the years.”

“I’m going to go see what I can do to help, you should try and get some sleep.” I make my way into the kitchen to see where I can be useful.

“I totally got this, you need to go and get some rest.” A red-haired girl I haven’t seen before argues with the kind older woman who made sure everyone got fed this morning.

“I will, just as soon as I’ve picked this up from town,” she holds up a list she’s written.

“I can get that for you.” The girl snatches the list out of her hands and scans it. “I’ll take one of the trucks, while you get your head down for a few hours and re-charge your batteries.”

“Have you seen the size of that list? We’re feeding an army. You’ll need to take someone with you.”

“She’ll come with me.” The girl gestures her head in my direction, and I check around me to make sure she’s not referring to someone else.

“Me?” I point at myself.
