“Nah, I’ve been riding most the night. I want a bottle of something strong, a warm wet hole, and somewhere for me to enjoy ‘em.” He rubs his hands together. “Tomorrow we set to work, kiddo,” he promises.

“Cabin twelve,” Jessie produces a key from his pocket and tosses it at my brother. “I’ll send Mel up with that bottle.”

“Mel? She still knocking around here? I thought she and you were, ya know, exclusive. Not that I got a problem with that. The girl can suck a guy’s ball sack through his bellend.”

“I got an old lady now, Maddy, and if you know what’s good for you, you’ll stay clear.” Jessie’s lips straighten as he makes it clear to Autumn that she’s off bounds.

“If you don’t want Mel, we can send you someone else,” I interfere before things get awkward.

“Send Mel, let's see if it is possible to teach an old dog new tricks.” Stepping toward me, he reaches up to ruffle my hair. “Laters, bro.” He winks before heading back out to his bike.

I immediately turn my attention to Jessie and fold my arms over my chest.

“Okay, okay. I’m sorry.” He holds up his hands defensively. “But you must see my logic, the guy’s an asshole but he’s a good fighter. He’ll keep ya on ya toes.”

“Jess, you know what he’s like. Do the other brothers know you called him?”

“Only Prez, I had to run it past him after what happened with Haven last time he passed through.” He grits his teeth.

“You know he’s gonna rub people up the wrong way while he’s here,” I warn.

“And I’ll take full responsibility for that, you just concentrate on getting the job done. I’ll focus on keeping Autumn alive.”

“I’m taking another run.” I grab my T-shirt and make for the door. “And next time you decide to call my brother in, give me some warning,” I call back at him over my shoulder as I leave.

“Well, that’s the last of it.” Marilyn unties her apron and throws it on the kitchen counter. There are only a few families left here, and between us this morning, we’ve scrubbed the kitchen and washed all the spare bedding ready to be packed away for the next emergency.

“I guess you're ready to go back to normal,” she says, turning out the lights in the huge industrial kitchen. Truth is, I hate that things are going back to normal, I’ll have no excuse to visit the club if my people aren’t here, and I’ve grown to like these people.

I look at the time, it’s seven pm, it’ll only be a few more hours until I sneak out to see Troj. That’s if he wants me to, of course. Maybe he’ll want to hang out at the club tonight with his friends. I know he’s been putting all his efforts into training, but he’s sure to be done by now.

When I reach the bottom of the stairs in the foyer, I look to the door to my right and I wonder if Troj is in there now. I look to the door on my right, the one that leads outside, the one I should be walking through. But the urge to go to Troj pulls too strongly and I end up going through the double doors toward the bar.

I step inside slowly, my eyes scanning the room for his long brown hair and chocolate eyes. It’s not as busy here as it had been that night I first came.

“Hey Shaniya, come join us,” Grace calls me over to the table where she’s sitting at with Maddy and Jessie. Jessie’s got his foot resting on the table and Maddy on his lap.

“You wanna grab yourself a drink, darlin’?” he offers, but I politely decline.

“And what do we have here?” a voice comes from behind me, and when I turn around I’m greeted with a man I haven’t seen around here before. His hair is past his shoulders like Troj’s, but his facial hair is longer and much more scraggly. He almost has as many tattoos as Tac. Considering he’s wearing the same leather waistcoat as the others, I figure he must be one of them.

“I wouldn’t, Aut.” Jessie voices a warning and when I look back at the guy who reminds me a little of Troj, his eyes are roaming over me like he’s about to pounce.

“I didn’t realize we were hanging with the Indians these days,” he snarls.

The strange stare-off between us ends abruptly when the main door slams open, and Brax storms inside. The look on his face, murderous and directed straight at the guy in front of me. He charges at him, and without any warning lands a brutal punch straight into his face. Even though he’s not as big as Brax, the guy doesn’t seem affected. He just brushes the blood from his nose with his fingers and smirks.

“I deserved that one,” he shrugs, causing Brax to launch at him again. Jessie carefully slides Maddy off his lap and steps up between the two men. He attempts to calm Brax while shielding the other guy at the same time, who seems to be finding this whole thing amusing.

“Let ‘em go at it,” Nyx calls out from where he’s standing at the bar.

“My money’s on the Nomad,” Tac shouts.

“Screw.” Jessie looks to the huge guy, who never speaks to anyone, for support, and he’s up and on his feet in seconds, using brute force to pull Brax away.

“You stole my fuckin’ bike, you jack ass.” Brax struggles against Screwy’s firm hold.

“Dude, you have like ten of them, I was borrowing it.”
