CHAPTERFOUR

Taylor

It’s the day after Thanksgiving, and I wake up on Nash and Paisley’s sofa with a pounding head and a mouth that feels like I’ve eaten a bucket full of sand. I drank far too much yesterday, and I’m definitely paying for it this morning. I groan as I remember drinking at least two bottles of wine with Ashlyn. Paisley drank a fair amount too, and I can’t help but wonder if she’s feeling as bad as I am this morning.

I sit up and swing my legs off the edge of the sofa, my stomach rolling. I drag in some deep breaths. The last thing I want is to throw up at Nash’s place after everything he’s done for me.

“Urgh,” Paisley groans as she walks into the living room and flops down onto the sofa next to me. “I feel like shit! How much did we drink last night?” she asks, dropping her head onto the back of the sofa.

“Too much. Ashlyn is a bad influence. I’ll have to remember when we have our girls’ night out that I can’t keep up with her.”

Max bounds into the room and jumps onto the sofa between the two of us. I drop my head onto his fur and pull him close against me. Nash appears and chuckles when he sees the state we’re both in.

“It looks like you’re feeling as bad as Paisley, Taylor.”

“I’m blaming your sister,” I tell him, releasing Max and dropping my pounding head into my hands.

“She does love a drink. How does bacon and egg sound, with a side of Tylenol?”

Paisley stands from the sofa and throws her arms around his neck. His arms circle her waist as he pulls her against him.

“That sounds like the perfect hangover cure,” she tells him, brushing a kiss on his cheek. She steps out of his embrace and turns to me. “You want some bacon and eggs, right, Taylor?”

“I would love some, Nash. Thank you.” My stomach chooses that moment to rumble loudly, and Nash laughs.

“I’ll get right on it,” he says, beckoning for Max to follow him.

When he’s left the room, Paisley sits back down on the sofa.

“You’ve got a keeper there, Paisley. I wish I had someone to make me bacon and eggs when I’m hung over.”

She bumps her shoulder with mine and smiles. “Well, you can share Nash today, but I’m not sure about next time.”

“Next time! I’m never drinking again.”

She laughs. “I’ll remind you of that on our night out.”

I turn on the sofa to face her. “Are you busy today?”

“No, why?”

“Would you come with me to look at the apartment above Seb’s bar.”

“Sure. What time do you need to go?”

“He said any time is good. I was thinking lunchtime, before it gets too busy.”

“Sounds good. Maybe we could get lunch while we’re there.”

“Yeah, okay.”

Afew hours later, after eating what tasted like the best bacon and eggs I’ve ever had, I’m showered, dressed, and feeling a little more human than when I first woke up. I’m on the sofa, watching a movie while I wait for Paisley and Nash to get back from walking Max. When I hear Max barking from the entryway, I turn the television off and go to them.

Paisley is trying to take Max’s leash off when I get into the entryway, and I can’t help but laugh when I see him jumping all over her.

“Having fun?”
