She rolls her eyes. “He’s a young college professor who falls for a student in his class. They’re both legal.”

“And it’s… erm… hot? Like that one?” I nod my head toward the laptop.

“It’s hotter than this one.”

“Oh. Okay. I’ll take a look. If I have time.”

She smiles. “Sure. Let me know what you think. If you have the time to read it, of course.”

“Did you edit this one?” She nods. “I’ll let you know if I find any spelling mistakes.”

“You do that.”

I leave her chuckling and head back to the bar, where Alex is watching me. I round the bar and grab a bottle of Coke from one of the refrigerators.

“What’s that?” he asks, gesturing to the book in my hand.

“Something Taylor suggested I read.”

“Dude, there’s a shirtless guy on the cover.”

I hold it up. “Sex sells, Alex,” I say, repeating Taylor’s words.

I disappear out the back before he has a chance to say anything else, heading to the kitchen to order some lunch before going back to my office. I quickly finish off the ordering I was looking at earlier, just closing the laptop as Trudy knocks on the door with my lunch.

My eyes keep flicking to the book Taylor gave me as I eat my burger, and eventually, I give in and reach for it. I wasn’t lying when I told Taylor I like to read, but on the odd occasion I do pick up a book, it’s nothing like this one. Despite that, though, I’m soon engrossed in Peyton and Professor Clark’s story and I can’t put it down.

CHAPTERSIX

Taylor

It’s Friday afternoon and I’m almost done unpacking the last of my things. I’m trying to get the apartment straight before Paisley and Ashlyn head over tonight to watch a movie and eat pizza. This isn’t the girls’ night Ashlyn planned during Thanksgiving dinner. Sophie and Ashlyn’s friend, Bree, can’t make tonight, so we’re having a chilled one just the three of us before what I’m sure will be a messier night another time.

I ordered some prints to go up in the apartment to break up the stark white walls, and they’ve been delivered today. I haven’t asked Seb if I can hang things in the apartment, but I guess I’d better make sure I can before I put holes in his walls.

I grab my keys and lock the apartment door, jogging down the stairs and into Eden. It’s busy, but there’s only Ryder serving. Making my way to the bar, I sit on one of the high chairs and wait for him to finish.

“Hi, Taylor,” he says when he spots me. “What can I get you?”

“I’m looking for Seb. Is he working today?”

“Yeah. He’s in his office out back. You can go through if you want. It’s the second door on the right.”

“Thanks, Ryder.”

When I get to Seb’s office, I knock lightly on the door. After a minute or so, there’s no answer, so I try again, a little louder this time.

“Come in,” Seb shouts, and I push open the door. “Hey, Taylor. Everything okay?” he asks when I walk in.

“Sorry to bother you,” I say as I close the door behind me and walk toward his desk. “I just wanted to ask if I could put some pictures up in the apartment?”

“Sure you can. You don’t need to ask. If you want to paint any of the rooms, I’m more than good with that too. I know white isn’t everybody’s first choice.”

“Really? That would be great. I was thinking a little color in the bedroom might be good.”

He nods. “I trust you, Taylor.”

“Thanks.” My eyes drop to his desk where the copy of the book I lent him sits open but facedown as though he put it down when I knocked on the door. It looks like he’s almost finished.
