I look at him like he’s lost his mind. “I’m too busy making drinks to notice who’s getting it on and who isn’t. As long as they keep buying drinks, I don’t care.”

“I’ve watched people and I’ve watched you two.”

I shake my head. “Well, you’ve got it wrong this time, Ryder. Dead wrong.”

“You keep telling yourself that and I’ll be here to tell youI told you sowhen you end up together.”

“You have a vivid imagination.”

I turn my back on him and continue to restock the refrigerator. I might have pushed down his theory, but if I’m completely honest with myself, I know he’s right, even if I don’t want to admit it aloud. I like her, but I shouldn’t. I’m pretty sure she likes me too. I’ve caught her watching me more than once, and whenever we talk, there’s always an undertone of attraction. It doesn’t change anything, though. I was friends with Sophie before I realized I liked her, and there’s no doubt my feelings for her have strained our friendship, even if she has no idea. It changed things for me, and I don’t want the same to happen with Taylor. When feelings are involved, it confuses everything.

Ihaven’t seen Taylor all week. I know after speaking to her at Cade and Sophie’s place she was chasing a deadline for the book she was editing. I’m guessing that’s kept her busy and she’s been working nonstop.

I’m not expecting to see her tonight, and when she walks into Eden, my breath catches in my throat. She looks fucking stunning, and I can’t take my eyes off her. Her long blonde hair falls around her shoulders in waves, and the black dress she’s wearing hugs her body in all the right places. The tight material falls mid-thigh, and as my gaze sweeps over her, I groan internally as I see the black, heeled shoes she’s wearing, making her legs look like they go on forever. I can’t help but wonder who she’s meeting dressed like that.

“Hey, Seb,” she says as she nears the bar, and I finally drag my eyes up to meet hers.

“Hey,” I reply, smiling at her. “Night out?”

“It’s girls’ night.”

An unexpected wave of relief washes over me knowing she’s meeting the girls and not some guy.

“Should I get more tequila from downstairs? Is it going to get messy?” I tease.

She screws up her nose, making her look even more beautiful. “Not for me. I still haven’t finished my edits, and the deadline is Monday.”

“So, sodas all night for you, then?”

“Well… I was thinking maybe one glass of wine would be okay.”

I smile. “Is it me you’re trying to convince or yourself?”

“Urgh, you’re no help. I’ll take a large red wine.”

“Coming right up.”

I grab a wineglass and fill it to the top before handing it to her.

Her eyes widen. “Are you trying to get me drunk, Seb Brookes?”

“If you’re only having one, then you may as well fill the glass.”

“You’re a bad influence, you know that?”

I chuckle. “What time are the girls getting here?”

“Eight. I’m a little early. I was desperate to get out of the apartment and away from my laptop.”

“You should come and work down here again for a couple of hours. Get a change of scenery.”

“Yeah, maybe I will tomorrow.”

“Wait there and I’ll grab you a seat. You can sit at the bar while you wait for the girls.”

“It’s okay. I’ll just grab a table. You’re busy.”
