He looks up, his eyes finding mine. “Oh, night, Taylor. Did you have fun?”

I nod. “I had the best night.”

He smiles. “Good. I might see you tomorrow if you decide to work in the bar for a while?”

“Sure. See you tomorrow.”

I raise my hand in a wave and make my way to thestaff onlyhallway that leads to my apartment. I dig in my purse for my keys as I climb the stairs to my front door. I’ve just unlocked the door when I hear movement behind me. I turn around, fear prickling up my spine.

“What are you doing? You can’t be back here.”

“Is this your apartment?” Brandon asks, moving closer toward me.

“You need to leave.”

“I saw you watching me before. Why don’t I come in and we can get to know each other better?”

“No. You need to go.” He’s still a couple of steps away from me and I take my chance, hoping I can get inside the apartment and close the door before he reaches me. As soon as I make the move, I know I’ve made a mistake. He’s by my side in seconds and pushing his way into the apartment.

“Get out! I don’t want you in here!” I back away from him, trying to put some space between us. He’s fast, though, and he grabs my arms and pushes me down on the sofa before I know what’s happening.

“No! Get off me!” I cry, struggling to get out from underneath him. Panic swirls in my stomach and I have no idea how I’m going to get away from him. My eyes search frantically for my purse, which holds my cell phone. If I can just get to that, I can try and call for help. I can’t see it, though, and my skin crawls when I feel his hands all over me.

“No! Stop! Please.” Tears fall down my face as the realization of what’s about to happen hits me.

“What the fuck!” a voice shouts and a wave of relief washes over me hearing Seb.

Seconds later, Brandon’s weight is lifted off me, and I scramble off the sofa and into my bedroom. I just need to get as far away from him as possible. My whole body’s shaking, and I lie on the bed, curling my body up as small as it will go.

I don’t know how long I’ve been lying on the bed, but it can’t have been long when Seb appears in the doorway.

“Taylor,” he says, his voice laced with concern. “Are you okay?”

“Is he… is he gone?”

“Yeah, he’s gone. Ryder’s calling 911. Did he hurt you?”

I shake my head. “You got here just in time. How did you know to come up?”

He sighs and sits down on the edge of the bed. “I saw you come back here and then I saw someone follow you. I got up here as quickly as I could. I just wish I’d gotten here sooner.”

The shock of what’s happened suddenly hits me and I burst into tears. Within seconds, Seb’s on the bed and I’m in his arms. I tense as he pulls me against him before realizing he’s nothing like the man who just attacked me.

“It’s okay. It’s over. Don’t cry,” he whispers.

I sag against him, my fingers clinging on to his t-shirt as he holds me. He somehow lays us both down on the bed without letting me go, and I cry into his chest. One of his hands strokes my hair, and eventually, my tears stop.

After a few minutes, I lift my head from his chest, my tears leaving a mascara-stained mark on his t-shirt.

Looking up at him, I smile apologetically. “I’m sorry about your t-shirt,” I tell him, dragging my fingers over the wet patch.

“I don’t care about my shirt. Are you okay?”

I shrug and drop my head back onto his chest.

“Why does someone think they have the right to try and…” I trail off, unable to say the words.

He increases his hold on me and blows out a breath. “I don’t know, Tay. He’s a fucking asshole. No one has the right toeverdo what he did.”
