Images of me fucking her over my desk flash through my mind, and I drop my gaze from hers. There’s no way I can tell her that and I don’t trust my face not to give away how much I want her. She must take my silence as something else and stands before I can answer.

“Ignore me. I’ve no idea why I asked you that. We should sleep. I’ll get the spare comforter. You can take the bed.”

“Taylor—”

“I’ll be right back.”

She rushes into the bedroom and I follow, standing in the doorway. “Taylor.”

She ignores me as she pulls a comforter out from under the bed and grabs one of the pillows.

“I’ll just brush my teeth.”

“Stop.” She finally looks at me. I walk toward her and take the bedding from her arms, tossing it on the bed. “If you’d hit on me, I’d probably think you were joking. You’re way out of my league.”

“Out of your league?”

“You’re beautiful, Taylor, and stunning in that dress you were wearing tonight. You’re equally as beautiful with no makeup and your pjs on. There’s no way I would ever think you’d be hitting on me.”

“Oh,” she whispers, her cheeks flushing pink.

“I’ll take the sofa.” I reach for the bedding, but she stops me.

“No way.I’mon the sofa.”

“Tay—”

“No,” she says, cutting me off. “I’ve asked you to stay. The least I can do is offer you a comfy bed. There’s no way you’d fit on my sofa anyway.”

Before I can argue, she’s picked up the bedding and disappeared into the living room. There’s no way I’m letting her sleep on the sofa. I’ll wait until she’s asleep and then carry her in here. I’ll go on the sofa then.

“Night, Seb,” she shouts from the living room.

“Night, Taylor.”

I sigh and strip out of my jeans and t-shirt, leaving me in my boxers. After using the bathroom, I slide under the comforter and stare at the ceiling. Taylor’s perfume is on the sheets and it invades my senses as I lie in her bed. I’m grateful that I’ll be bringing her in here when she’s asleep. There’s no way I’ll be able to sleep with her scent all around me.

About half an hour passes when I hear the bedroom door open. The light from the living room streams in and I turn over. Taylor’s standing in the doorway and it looks like she’s been crying.

“Are you okay?” I ask, the comforter falling away as I sit up.

“I can’t sleep. Every time I close my eyes…” She trails off as tears streak down her cheeks.

My heart squeezes in my chest when I see her crying, and I climb off the bed and go to her.

“Come here.” I close the door and take her hand, guiding her to the bed.

“What are you doing?” she asks quietly as I gently pull her to sit down.

“Holding you. Is that okay?” She’s silent for a minute before she nods. I scoot backward. “Lie down.” When she does, I open my arms to her. She hesitates for a second, then places her head on my chest, pressing her body against mine. I wrap my arms around her and hold her close before tugging the comforter over us.

“Thank you,” she whispers. “I’m glad you’re here.”

I brush a kiss on her head and hold her tighter. I’m blurring the lines between us and that’s unfair on Taylor, but the need to comfort her is overwhelming.
