Taylor: Mmmm. Maybe I’ll try it tonight. It might help me sleep too.

She adds a winking emoji onto the end of her message, and I groan out loud. I know what I’m going to be thinking about for the rest of the night. Part of me wants to find out if she needs any help, but I know I can’t. Sleeping together had been inevitable. If it hadn’t happened last week, it would have happened eventually. The sexual tension that had been building between ushadto come to a head at some point. We can’t keep sleeping together, though. Not when it can’t lead to anything. I don’t want to hurt her, and I can’t mess up another friendship by letting feelings get involved. Knowing I have to shut down the conversation, I type out a reply.

Me: Enjoy. I hope it helps.

Taylor: Night, Seb.

Me: Night, Taylor.

I push my phone into the pocket of my jeans and head back to the bar. I’m distracted for the rest of the night, though, and even when I get home, I can’t fall asleep. Damn you, Taylor Jacobs, and your naughty texts.

CHAPTERSIXTEEN

Taylor

It’s Thursday morning and I’ve just turned on my laptop when my phone rings in my pocket. I slide it out and smile when Paisley’s name flashes up.

“Hello,” I say as I press the phone to my ear.

“Hi, Taylor. It’s me. What are you up to?”

“Not much. I’m working. What about you?”

“How busy are you?”

“I’ve just started a new edit, why?”

“Wyatt called. He’s playing in Phoenix tonight and he’s got some tickets. Do you want to come?”

I screw up my nose. “I know nothing about football, Pais. I won’t know what’s going on.”

“Me neither, but we get to meet the team afterwards and, trust me, some of them are hot! Please come.”

I chuckle. “I didn’t know you were into hot football players.”

“I’m not! I was thinking for you.”

I roll my eyes. “I’m not looking for a guy, Paisley.”

“Come anyway. It’ll be fun.”

“Okay. Why not? Nash will have to explain what’s going on, though.”

She laughs. “Pack a bag. We’re staying overnight. We’ll pick you up in an hour.”

“Wait!” I shout before she can end the call. “Staying overnight?”

“Yep. It’ll be too late to drive back after the game.”

“Where are we staying?”

“Wyatt’s booked us into a hotel. There’s a pool, so bring a swimsuit.”

“Okay.”

“See you in an hour.”

I end the call and power off my laptop. Excitement swirls in my stomach as I think of a night away. I’d become a little withdrawn after the incident with Brandon, and despite Seb making the staff area more secure, I’d lost some of my confidence. A night in Phoenix might be exactly what I need to pull me out of my funk.
