After the plane takes off and settles, I pull out my planner from my purse and jot my to-do list.

Unpack and start laundry.

Make a vet appointment for Hades.

Convince my husband to get a puppy.

Maceo, who is reading over my shoulder, shakes his head.

Ah, well. It was worth a shot.

Check on the house and cottage builds.

“Add deodorant to the list.”

“It’s not a shopping list, Maceo. It’s a to-do list.”

Maceo frowns. “What’s the difference? We’ve got shoppingto do.”

“Fine.”

Take my husband to the store and make him buy his damn deodorant.

Suggest counseling to Opal.

Maceo points at the last line. “Not a bad idea.”

“You think so too?”

“Absolutely. I’m happy you thought of it.”

“I was thinking maybe Opal could come with me to one of my sessions to get a feel for it. Simone and Candy like Brandon as their counselor, as much as I do. Maybe he’s a good fit for Opal, maybe not. But she’ll see how it works. Hopefully, she’ll be open to it.”

“Good deal,” Maceo agrees, then jokes, “At this rate, we’ll need to hire Brandon full time.”

Intrigued, I raise an eyebrow. “It’s not a bad idea.”

Maceo cocks his head. “Say what?”

“I’m benefiting from regular therapy sessions for my PTSD after Jacob’s attack. You and your men deal with heavy mental shit from your missions. Someone on the payroll at your disposal may be beneficial.”

Maceo scratches his chiseled chin. “I mean, I see the reasoning, but I’m not too sure how the guys will respond to a counselor being added to our family. We’re military at our roots and bikers at our core—we’re supposed to keep our emotions in check. When you’re sent to a head shrink, it’s often seen as a punishment in the service.”

“Then you change their opinions by leading by example. It wouldn’t hurt for you to sit with Brandon and work through some of your anger and aggression,” I say nonchalantly.

Maceo has a lot of unresolved issues, mainly stemming from his parents being murdered by Esteban. Maceo’s a very level-headed man in the field, but bring his family into the mix…he’ll turn into Atlas, the deadly biker Titan.

He tenses. “Come again?”

I look up at him. “Easy tiger. You can’t deny you don’t have a hard time expressing yourself, especially when you’re angry. If you’re not next to a punching bag, you’re flipping a chair or throwing beer bottles at people’s heads. You’ve come a long way in showing love and empathy, but the anger needs to rein in. You’re going to be a father, and at some point, you’re bound to get angry with our children, me, or something work-related. Do you want our children to see you act out like this? Do you want them to think it’s okay as they get older to handle their anger the same as you?”

Maceo shakes his head vigorously. “No, I don’t want them seeing this side of me, ever.” He runs his hand over my hand, cradling my belly. He looks into my eyes with determination. “You’re right. Therapy would be a smart move. If my men see me doing it, they’ll be more on board with it. It’s time to change our mindset on mental health.”

I gape, hardly believing it. He’s going to do it. My eyes water knowing my children are going to have the best daddy ever. There are no lengths he wouldn’t go for his family.

Maceo puts his forehead against mine. “I love you, Josephine.”

“And I love you, Maceo. More and more every day.”
