My eyes close, shielding the pain inside of me. I have to fight the growl building in my lungs. I knew she would ask, and I’ll do everything I can to make my mission quick, but there are no guarantees.

“I pray this is done before the twins’ arrival. But if…if I can’t be there, then you have your brother. Punk will be your support system in my absence. He’ll go with you to all your appointments. Help you with Lamaze classes. Rub your feet when they’re swollen, and every other thing you could need to help you in this pregnancy.”

“I don’t want to do this without you,” she croaks. “I need you.”

Fuck, but I want to be there for her too. I’ll do everything—anything—to make it happen.

“There’s no place I’d rather be than with you. More than anything, I hope I’m present, holding your hand, and encouraging you when you bring our boys into the world. It’s what I want—you know I don’t back down from what I want. But if I’m not there, it’s not because I didn’t want to be, but because I couldn’t. This is months away—there’s no need to fret about something which may not be an issue when the time comes.”

“But it’s a question there in the back of my mind. It doesn’t just turn off. I can’t do this without you.”

To hell if I let my woman think she can’t handle this. I pull away from her a fraction so I can gaze into her eyes.

“Josephine, you’re the strongest, bravest, most stubborn woman I’ve ever met, and I love you because you are. I understand our situation sucks ass, but if there’s a woman who can handle this job, it’s you. You don’t need me—you choose me because you love me, but you’re a fighter, with or without me. If everything goes to pot, and I’m not there, you can and will handle this like a fucking boss. That’s who you are, baby.”

I give her a soft kiss, needing to taste her on my lips. “You remember our first date when I took you out for Moroccan?”

Josephine blinks with confusion, then says, “Yes.”.

“Do you remember what you called me after I told you what I did for a living? You called me a ‘modern-day superhero.’ Well, that’s what you are to me and our boys—you’re our superhero. Don’t leave us hanging dry.”

Josephine throws her arms around my neck, pulling me in for a sensual kiss. My lips mold to hers, not breaking contact, as we lay on the bed.

Our time is limited. It won’t be long before Punk sweeps her off to safety. I plan on taking advantage of every available second I have with her until that time comes. To keep her feeling whole, I will fill her with all my love, so she has it with her, even when I’m no longer next to her.

We take our time—there’s no need to rush, no other place we’d rather be. Our hands intertwine as I slip inside of her warm haven. We move as one, like a finely tuned engine, everything shaped perfectly together. I get lost in her eyes, in her kisses, in her body. And when Josephine comes, she takes me over the edge with her, falling into a precipice of perfect bliss.
