“The request is for this evening. They sent an address.”

Gauge pops the address into Google Earth, bringing up an image of a home on the outskirts of the city. “Looks like a legit location. I’ll deliver them when the time comes.”

“Gauge,” I interject. “Shouldn’t I be delivering them personally? How am I supposed to grow my business if big, scary bikers deliver my desserts instead of me?”

“Hey! I’m not scary.”

A muscled retired SEAL in chains, leather, and well-worn denim riding up to your home in biker cuts would scare the pants off most. “I love you, but you can be…intimidating.”

“I’ll wear a smile then,” Gauge counters, flashing me his pearly straight teeth. His hotness factor skyrockets when he gives a genuine smile.

I shake my head. “I can’t have you delivering cookies like that, or they may take you instead.”

Gauge grumbles, “Opal… It’s not safe for you to leave the compound.”

“Even with one of the crew escorting me?”

“You’re safe with a brother, always. It’s just the timing isn’t right.”

“And when will it be the right time? When Levi’s behind bars?”

“That would be preferable, yes.”

“It could be months, years before he’s caught. Please, Gauge. I’m not doing cartwheels about leaving the property either, but this is my business. I don’t want Levi ruining this too.”

My moody biker mulls over my request. With a sigh, he relents. “Fine. But I’m escorting you. Don’t even try to argue.”

I reach up to give him a kiss. “Thank you. It means a lot to me you understand why this is important.”

“I’ll do anything to make you happy,” he murmurs sweetly, burying his face in the crook of my neck.

“Well, if that’s the case. You better take me to bed and do all those things you had in mind to help me forget.”

Flashing his trademark crooked smirk, he swipes my knees out from under me, scooping me in his arms to carry me to bed.

CHAPTERSIXTY-FIVE

OPAL

True to his word, Gauge had me curling my toes and speaking in tongues by the time he let me leave our bed. We blew the morning and most of the afternoon away, tangled in sheets and dripping in sweat. I barely had enough time to shower, dress in jeans and a band t-shirt, and get the cookies made by the time we had to leave.

Gauge informed the crew he was taking me on a delivery run. Chase promised to track our progression, checking our location every fifteen minutes. This isn’t overkill behavior for the crew, considering Levi could be nearby. Atlas double-checked Gauge was packing before he let us leave. I’m not a fan of guns, but all things considered, it’s necessary.

The drive across Fort Collins to my customer’s address is a pleasant liberation from the confines of the MC compound, even if it’s in the company SUV instead of Gauge’s hog. After so many months in hiding, it registers how much I’ve missed my freedom. Will my independence be compromised because of Levi indefinitely?

Attuned to my melancholy, Gauge engulfs my hand with his much larger one. “We’ll find him soon, baby. And when we do, I’m taking you out for a date night to celebrate.”

“And what will we be doing on this date?”

“Dinner followed by a movie. Hell, we can even see one of those chick flicks.” He pauses, giving me a pointed look. “But Punk isn’t invited. Fuck him. I have plans for me and you afterward that don’t involve my little brother tagging along.”

My heart gallops with excitement. “What will we do that Punk can’t be there?”

His heavy, lust-filled gaze has me rubbing my thighs together to temper the ache growing in my lower core. His crooked smirk takes over his rugged face when he catches my actions. “If we weren’t playing girl scouts, I’d pull over and give you a sampler of what I have in mind. With my tongue.”

“Gauge,” I pant weakly, pleading with my eyes for him to stop.

His smirk grows more pronounced. “What? Are your panties getting damp thinking about me eating your sweet little pussy?”
