Page 38 of Engaging Opal

Punk drones on while I glare at the steering wheel, wishing I could tell him to fuck off already. I bite my tongue instead.

“And Gauge,” Punk pesters, pulling me out of my head. “Don’t be a cheap date. Next time, make sure you buy your girl flowers when you take her out. Chicks love that shit.”

Punk jumps out of the SUV before I can respond or take a swipe at the asshole, slamming the door behind him.

I will murder him in his sleep with his goddamn pillow.

Opal surprises me when she places a gentle hand over my strained knuckles, squeezing the life out of the steering wheel. “Good, he’s finally gone,” she says as she leans across the SUV console, brushing her plump lips against mine.

I pull back. “Excuse me? I thought you wanted surfer-boy to join us.”

Opal giggles as she kisses me again. “I wanted alone time with you—I always want alone time with you. But he’s lonely, Gauge. Can’t you see that?”

Punk is the least lonely out of our crew. The guy has no problem finding a party or a woman to entertain.

“He’s heartbroken,” Opal continues.

“Did he tell you that?”

She shakes her rainbow-streaked head. “He doesn’t need to. I see it in his eyes when he’s around women. The way he overcompensates with jokes—he’s trying to forget someone, and using humor is his healing mechanism.”

Well, I’ll be damn. Opal is more observant than the entire crew if she’s picking up on Punk’s first love. The woman nearly destroyed him when she married his half-brother behind his back. It’s been what? Two years now? Is he still not over Natalie?

“It doesn’t bother me if he tags along on movie date nights,” Opal says, interrupting my thoughts as her lips brush against mine. They are feather soft and oh so damn inviting. “As long as I get time with you afterward, that’s all I care about.”

My fingers thread into her hair at the back of her head, and then I devour her mouth. A little moan escapes her lips, and I eat it up.

I would have preferred to pull off somewhere more private, like a logging road on the way back to the rental, but I’ll settle for the tinted windows of the SUV.

Somehow, I manage to wrap my arms around her and climb us into the backseat. We’re a mess of arms and legs, grabbing at each other’s clothing with frantic hands. I’m just about to free my cock from my jeans when the backdoor of the Tahoe swings open. Opal screams, her eyes becoming saucers in the dark. I throw my body over hers, shielding her nakedness from view.

“Do you fucking mind?” I snarl at the intruder.

“Aw, hell.” I recognize Flay’s voice before he yells over his shoulder. “Punk, you asshole. You set me up.”

We can hear Punk giggling in the background like some damn kid.

“Fucking out!”

“Sorry, bro. Atlas called us into church,” he apologizes before shutting the door.

My luck can’t be this shitty. It just can’t.

“You’re going to church?” Opal asks, her brows knit together in confusion.

I shake my head. “Club meeting. It’s probably about a job, and we need to gather a team for the assignment.”

Opal looks sad with a little side of worry. “Does this mean you’ll be leaving?”

I get her emotions. I feel the same damn way. Being separated for any length of time is going to hurt. But it will only make my return that much sweeter.

“If Atlas is leading it, yeah. We’re partners.”

Regretfully, I pull away from her luscious body, sneaking in one last lick of her magnificent tits before getting dressed. I escort Opal inside before heading back out to the garage where the crew has gathered.

I’ve barely stepped over the threshold when I hear Atlas calling my name, followed by five other brothers. “Grab your shit. We leave in twenty.”

Fuck my luck.
