“You’ll make a beautiful addition to my stable, Harlow. The person who told me about you didn’t do your stunning good looks justice. Now, there’s one piece of business left before your new life begins. Where’s the little girl?” Michael laughed, enjoying the hell out of himself.

“If you think you’re going to hurt her, you underestimate me,” Harlow snarled.

I took a deep breath, my fingers tightening around my weapon. Time to ignore the pain. I darted my head just inside, the brief second allowing me to see Michael had her in his clutches, one of his fucking soldiers holding Carrie by the throat. The rage festering inside of me increased, my breathing rapid. My woman was fierce, but she had no idea what was dealing with.

Then again, Michael had no clue I was a fucking beast.

“I assure you the little girl won’t be hurt,” Michael continued. “She’ll grow up as my daughter, living the life of luxury.”

“Over my fucking dead body.”

I should never have underestimated the beautiful woman I’d fallen in love with. Although her unbridled reaction was not only risky but stupid. Yet the moment she threw her elbow into Michael’s gut, that allowed me an in. I threw a look at Cage then stormed inside, the Kings following me.

Cage and another biker easily took out the two soldiers, the third King grabbing Carrie, pulling her away from any danger. My friend knew that Michael Azzurri was all mine. I’d given him details, but he’d known more about the man and his family than I had, filling in some of the blanks. Cage had taken it upon himself to have a chat with Michael’s father, allowing the man to know the Silent Kings had a presence in Chicago. I would be curious to know what transpired.

For now, it was time for me to take out the trash.

As soon as Harlow pulled free, I took a single shot, but his reflexes were quick, the bullet hitting him in the stomach. Michael was tossed against the edge of the island, immediately gasping, a grin remaining on his face. He pointed his weapon, his hand shaking. All three Kings had their weapons pointed at his head. The fucker was going nowhere.

“Get out,” I told Harlow.

“Not a chance,” she panted, immediately grabbing the weapon I’d given her off the floor. “We see this through together.”

I admired her spunk, but a lesson was definitely needed. That would come later. I walked closer, cocking my head.

He laughed even though it was easy to tell he was in pain. “You’ll die for this.”

“Yeah, well, we all die sometime. What the fuck did you use on Matt Jones to get him to turn against his best friend?”

He laughed, gasping for air. “He’s been my attorney for years. I didn’t have to force him to do anything.”

I took a deep breath, taking a guess. “His wife and kid are still alive, aren’t they?”

“Not for long. He thinks he can hide them away from me. The fucker’s wrong. They will be found.”

While I was prepared to put a bullet in Matt’s brain, I realized he’d been under the kind of duress that would make a man sell his soul if necessary. “Your reign of terror in this town is over.”

“Fuck… you,” he wheezed.

“Yeah, I’m pretty certain that’s going to happen, but in the meantime, you’re going straight to hell. No one fucks with my family!” I issued a single shot execution style, the bullet driving into his brain. As the light left his eyes, I shifted my full attention to Harlow, pulling her into my arms.

She slumped against my chest, allowing me to remove the weapon from her hand. “You saved us. My God, you’re hurt? Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, sunshine. Did you think I wouldn’t come for you, darlin’? Not a chance. You’re my woman and I protect what’s mine.” The words came easily, the love I felt unlike anything I’d ever experienced. I continued to hear gunfire in the distance, the Kings handling the stragglers, eradicating the enemy.

For once, I felt a moment of peace shifting into my system. The war was over.

For now.

“Get out of here, Savage, before the police arrive. Carrie and I can handle it.”

Frank’s voice allowed me a smile. I turned my head, staring into his determined eyes. Heroes came in all packages and the older man standing in front of me had it in spades.
