“The name’s Hunt Masters, but you can call me Savage.”

He swallowed twice then shifted through his briefcase, pulling up pictures.

“Those were taken a hell of a long time ago. I’ve changed.” I had eight more inches of hair and enough hair on my face to make me look like a badass, or so I’d been told.

“I can see that.” He finally held out his hand. “Matt Jones. I’ve been or was your brother’s attorney for years. You’re a day late.”

I glared at him, realizing and enjoying that I intimidated the hell out of him. Then I allowed him inside. “Yeah, well, I had shit to do.” Sassy’s face rushed into my mind once again. And I much preferred being with the sexy redhead than this dude.

“You were a hard man to track down.”

“How the fuck did you?”

Matt’s eyes were wide open. “Your brother kept tabs on you.”

“He did now, did he?” That sounded like Galen. He’d been certain I’d end up in prison or worse, which could have happened had I stayed with the Kings. Not that I’d given a shit. I’d tossed aside every scrap of honor I’d had, preferring a life of crime.

“Let me just say, I’m sorry for your loss,” he added.

“Yeah, well, shit happens.”

He was obviously uncomfortable with my retort, his jaw clenching. “Can we go somewhere and sit? That will make this much easier. I have several things to go over with you, many of them time sensitive.”

He’d need to explain why anything at this point was time sensitive.

“Sure. How about the kitchen?” I could use another beer at this point. I didn’t wait for his answer because I didn’t give a shit. I’d dealt with the basics over the phone when he’d called providing the news. Then I’d gone and gotten drunk. What had happened after that I barely remembered until I’d hit the road. I pulled out another beer, figuring at one-fifty in the afternoon, he wouldn’t be drinking.

He sat down at the kitchen table, placing his briefcase near him, yanking out assorted files. “I’m certain you want to get settled, so let’s just go through the basics.”

“Sure. Why don’t you do that?” As he started reading my brother’s will, I allowed my thoughts to drift to sweet Sassy. I hadn’t even bothered trying to find out her real name. I’d just allowed myself to enjoy what would be the last moments of fulfilling my carnal needs for a long time. Fucking her in the bathroom hadn’t been my finest hour, but the woman had simply driven me crazy. I’d waited as long as I could in town to ensure the mechanics wouldn’t fuck with her. Although I knew the girl could handle herself pretty well.

I rubbed my jaw, trying to keep from grinning. She had a mean right hook. That was certain.

“Mr. Masters. Are you listening to me because there are some important details we need to go over?”

“Sure. I’m listening.”

“Okay, good. In the matter of the physical items in his will. You’re now the sole owner of his business, this estate, a vacation home in Fort Lauderdale where he has a boat stored at the marina. He has two vehicles other than the one totaled in the crash. Those are stored in a garage off site. I’ll be happy to provide you with the address.”

Exhaling, I stared at the man. I’d had no idea that Galen’s business had been so damn successful.

Matt lifted his head to see if I was still paying any attention. He cleared his throat, loosening his tie. Why was the man sweating so damn much?

“Of course there’s a substantial amount of withholdings in three separate bank accounts, stocks, a few bonds. I’ll give you all the particulars on that. I’m aware he had a financial advisor so you may want to make an appointment to see him.”

I walked toward the table, planting one hand on the surface and leaning over. It was obvious I made the man very uncomfortable. “How in the fuck did he go from barely making ends meet to becoming a millionaire in a couple years?”

I’d always been very observant, another talent that had prevented me from getting killed in action more than once. The twitch in the corner of his mouth told me very clearly that he had something to hide.

And so did my brother.

“I’m not privy to every detail, Mr. Masters, but it would appear your brother was a brilliant businessman. He had some very influential clients.”

“Uh-huh.” There were red flags all over the place. I’d also come to accept that if something had a stench, then I should stay clear from it. “Tell me about the accident.”

Matt wasn’t just uncomfortable. He was downright green. “It was an unfortunate accident. His brakes went out. It was the middle of a gorgeous day.”

“The police investigated?”
