“So then where would the three from here go?”

“Somewhere they were needed,” Zakk said. “At least, that’s what I’d hope. What if all we are is a fragment of a soul. Maybe we were complete once, maybe we will be complete again, when all the fragments have lived, learned, died and crashed together again. What if you were mine in a different lifetime?”

“Then I’d hope you were mine in all of them.”

Chapter 31

Blog this!

“Guys, we’re here and we’re running behind!”

James’ bellow cut through the haze of weed induced relaxation they were currently languishing in.

“Technically, aren’t you the one running behind since you were the one driving?” Zakk grumbled. Sprawled face down on the couch, he raised his head and batted haphazardly at one long hank of hair hanging over his face. He clocked himself in the nose for his troubles, but at least he got it out of his way.

“I might be the one behind the wheel, but I am not the one the bloggers wants to see.”

“Awe, for fuck’s sake, why do they have to schedule all the talky shit so early?” Riley grumbled, rolling over and burying his face against Dez’s t-shirt covered chest.

“Because they know that once you fucks are turned loose there’ll be no reigning you in,” James replied. His voice hadn’t gotten any softer. If anything, it seemed like he was getting louder. Shit, had the RV stopped moving?

Pausing and raising his head a little more got him the answer.

Damnit, it had.

With a groan Zakk pressed his forehead against the seat, wishing it was Tripp’s thigh it was pillowed against. At the last rest stop everyone had returned to their respective busses, including a smirking Damien who’d headed first to the shower, then his bunk, not to be heard from since.

Was no indication he was moving now, either, judging by the occasional snore that drifted his way. Dez looked out of it too, one limp arm dangling off the edge of the couch, the rest of him buried beneath Riley.

“Can’t we just reschedule it?” Zakk pleaded. He didn’t wanna get up yet. Everything was still so soft and mellow from the blunts Dez had rolled them less than an hour ago.

“No, I can’t, seeing as how many bands are scheduled to play this thing,” James replied. Sounded like he was right over them now. Zakk rolled onto his shoulder, sunlight catching the corner of his eye. Wincing, he dropped his head onto his arm and lay there like a dead thing.

“Told you guys not to smoke until afterward,” James growled, giving Zakk a little shake.

“Awe quit it,” Zakk sighed. The cushions were like marshmallows beneath him. He could practically picture them melting against the floor of the bus.

The next thing he knew the floor was exactly where he was laying, and there was nothing soft, or fluffy about it. “Ow, damn, did you have to do that?”

Wrinkling his nose, raised his hand and felt the sticky remnants of iced tea that lingered there. “Uggg. The least you could have done was dump me in a cleaner spot.”

“Could have, or, one of you could have cleaned the floor when you spilt whatever that was.”

“Tea.”

“Of course, you could have avoided the whole episode if you’d have moved when I told you too.”

“James….we’re in no mood to face the bloggers and their fucked up questions right now, they’re invasive as hell,” Riley complained. At least, Zakk was pretty sure that was what he’d said, what with the way his voice was muffled, smothered somewhere in the folds of Dez’s shirt.

“Mood or not, you’re doing it,” James said, stepping over him. “You can either go looking like a bunch of urchins, or you can make yourselves presentable before someone turns a camera your way.”

“Not…fair,” Zakk grumbled, pushing himself into a sitting position. “Next time we play here, you make sure and tell them to schedule our interview for later in the day.”

“Yeah, sure, I’ll make a note of that.”

He wouldn’t. Was a waste of words to have even asked.

“One of you wake Dez while I prod sleeping beauty in the back. You got six minutes according to my watch.”
