“You’re mine, Lakyn. Admit it.”

I moan, tugging on his hair, meeting him grind for grind in the empty lot, feeling as if I’m lost in a frenzy, completely wild from his words, from his touch.

“Admit it,” he growls.

My legs tighten around his waist, and I squeeze him as much as my legs will allow. My hand falls to his neck, wanting his words to stop, hating how they’re making me feel.

Complete. Whole. Found.

“Admit it,” he rasps against my lips.

Our past slips into my mind, and I remember how he left me, with nothing but harsh words and a ruthless glare, not at all sympathetic to my breaking heart.

Knowing that he has the ability to do it again, if I give in.

My legs snap straight, and I slide down his body, slipping out from his grip in a second. He growls, cocking his head to the side as he looks at me in confusion.

“I’m not doing this with you again, Reign. I can’t. I won’t. I’m glad you’re back. We’re all glad you’re back, but I won’t survive if we do this. I’m not who I was three years ago, and I never intend to be in that place again.” I spin on my sneakered feet, racing toward the Jeep.

I expect him to follow, and my heart drops into my stomach when I realize he isn’t. I pull the keys from the back of my pants, and I unlock the door, holding on to it as I turn toward him.

He watches me with a calm face, as if he expected me to run.

“Go ahead and hide, baby Lake. Just know that I’ll always catch you.”

I shiver, shaking my head slightly.

“Oh, and Archer is my best bro and all, but if he thinks he’s laying his hands on you again, I hope he realizes there’s going to be some real fucking problems.”

I swallow over the lump in my throat.

I don’t control Archer. I’ve never been able to. He’s a wild card, and telling him to back away from me would be like dangling fruit in front of a starved man. It’ll be a game to him, and it’ll only make him play harder. Work for more.

“You know I don’t control him!” I shout at him.

He chuckles, bending down to lift his hat off the ground. He swipes his hair back, shoving the cap on backward. His sharp cheekbones jut out, and my lower belly heats.

Fuck, he’s hot.

“You better figure it out, Lakyn, because it’s not happening again.”

A cool breeze picks up, and I shiver, not saying another word as I slip into the Jeep. Reign doesn’t say another word as he turns on the car, speeding out of the lot. I wait until his car is gone before I start the Jeep, ready to pull out of the lot, when my phone starts ringing.

I narrow my eyes, pulling my phone from my pocket, Unknown Number staring back at me. I never answer these calls, but there’s something that has my thumb swiping the screen.

“Hello?” I croak.

Heavy breathing comes over the other end of the phone, and my body freezes against the seat.

I swallow down the lump in my throat, feeling eyes on me in every direction.

It’s the masked man, I know it is.

I press the phone back to my ear, letting out a shaky breath. “Who is this?” I whisper.

An obvious voice changer comes through the phone, and it only terrifies me more.

“How does it feel to know you’re being watched? Can you feel the chill that creeps down your spine to know eyes are on you, even when you can’t see them?”
