“Yeah, yeah. Mmm, I’ll cut you a deal this time. For the lot of them, throw me a hundred and fifty.” I nod at what he’s saying. I figured I’d be paying at least two hundred for all of them, so I walked back to my truck and left Hammer with Otis. I brought two duffel bags, so I grabbed fifteen ten-thousand straps of a hundred-dollar bills and threw them in the empty bag, zipped it up, and headed back over to the two men. I hand it to Otis, and he opens the bag, surely counting the straps. “I’ll get them ready for you. Can your transport come here? I’ll have my people get everything ready.”

“Yeah, that won’t be a problem. I’ll have them meet you back here in two hours to get the shipment,” I tell Otis, and we shake hands. “Next time, it’ll be more, as long as my partner here likes what we get this time.”

Otis looks over to Hammer. “Calvin, I assure you the people I work with are only seeking the highest quality. I’m sure you’ll be satisfied.”

“We’ll see about that,” Hammer comments before he walks back to the truck. His words leave Otis worried about the next shipment, and I’m glad. It’ll make him sweat a little bit, and if I’m lucky, he’ll talk about one of his buyers upping his funds.

One way or another, I’m going to make my way to the top.

CHAPTERONE

Jada

Present Day . . .

I had this planned out great, or at least I thought it was planned out great. I was going to surprise my brother, who I hadn’t seen in quite some time, and he’d be overjoyed at my visit. At least, I thought he would. Little did I know that there was a big event going on in Los Angeles right now and that there wouldn’t be any taxis, Uber drivers, or Lyft drivers around. I had it planned that I would show up at the Satan’s Raiders MC’s bar,The Clubhouse, and Hammer would see me. I figured he’d be excited since he left Billings to be down here almost five months ago.

Since our parents passed away, it’s been really hard for me to be in Billings by myself. I know I’m not really alone, considering the Reapers Rejects MC has always made me feel like I’m part of their family too, but it isn’t the same as having my brother around. Hammer and I went through the good and the bad together for our entire lives. When he told me he had to move to Los Angeles for the club, I was taken aback by what he said. Part of me thinks he didn’t just move because the club wanted him to. Deep down, I think he wanted to move so Shiloh could have a fresh start.

She used to be a clubwhore with the Reapers Rejects MC, which is a woman who stays with a biker club and does what they want. What they do is exactly in their name, ‘whore’. I don’t ever want to call Shiloh that, but she slept with a lot of the people in the club, and it’s obvious. Maybe that’s why Hammer moved, too, because he wanted to be in a place where not everyone fucked Shiloh.

Don’t get me wrong, I really like the girl. I think she’s great and she’s great for my brother. I’ve never seen him so happy before, and I don’t think Shiloh’s the type of woman who would ever break his heart.

In a way, I’m a bit envious of the relationship they have. Hammer’s found his person, and I’m here, alone. I’ve dated in the past, but I haven’t dated anyone I thought was special. Okay, maybe that’s a lie. I dated a guy in high school named Trenton, and he was on the football team. He was okay. He was a sweet boy, and I never thought we’d graduate and then continue our relationship. He had big dreams, and I didn’t want any sort of long-term commitment at the time.

I’m on the outside of the airport, leaning against a concrete wall. On the other side of the concrete wall is a garden with various types of flowers. A few people who departed from the same flight as I did are sitting around the wall, waiting for their rides, I’m assuming.

Since I couldn’t get another ride to the Satan’s Raiders MC clubhouse, I had no choice but to call my brother and let him know what I did. He wasn’t exactly too happy about it, probably because it was early. Earlier than he’d like to be awake, I’m going to guess.

Hammer told me he’d be at the airport in about twenty minutes, and it’s about that time right now.

“Are you here for business or pleasure? I couldn’t help but stare at you on the plane. Your beauty is something rare these days,” a man’s deep voice comes up from beside me.

I look him up and down. He might be in his early forties, and he has a five o’clock shadow that’s a few days overgrown. Overall, he’s a very handsome man with light green eyes and an olive complexion, but he’s giving me some serious creeper vibes.

“I don’t see how it’s any of your business, sir,” I tell him and glance down at my phone to look at the time. It’s five past nine, and Hammer should be here any moment.

“My name’s Ben, not sir. And you, my lovely lady, are?”

“Annoyed because you can’t take a hint. I have no interest in having a pointless conversation with you, and I’m not in the mood for your flirtatious remarks. If you want to get fucked, go on Tinder.”

Just as I finish speaking, I spot my brother’s truck coming up the lane. I wave him down, and he pulls up to the sidewalk. I grab onto my luggage, and at the same time, Ben puts his hand over mine. Naturally bothered, I raise both of my eyebrows. “What the hell are you doing?” I question him with saltiness in my tone.

“I’m helping you unless you’d like to do it yourself,” he tells me, and I’m growing more impatient by the moment.

Hammer puts his hazards on and gets out of the truck. “There a problem here or somethin’?” my brother asks. His voice literally sounds like it’s vibrating from his entire body.

“This your husband?” Ben asks.

“I’m her brother, and it doesn’t look like she wants you near her right now, my man. I’d suggest you back the fuck up before I make you,” Hammer tells him, and Ben cackles.

“I should’ve known,” Ben says, shaking his head.

“Should’ve known what exactly?” I ask him, crossing my arms in pure frustration and annoyance.

“That you’d be mixed up with some ghetto ass people.” Just as Ben finishes what he’s saying, I rear my arm back, ball my hand into a fist and punch upward against his nose. The moment I come into contact with him, his nose cracks, and he stumbles backward. His hands shoot up to his nose, and blood comes oozing out.

Hammer snickers and grabs my luggage, putting it in the back of his truck. “Come on. I think the lesson you just gave him in manners will be one he won’t forget.”
