Shit.

Clearing my throat, I wiggle in my seat.

Staring at him defiantly.

His jaw tics, the sharp stone vibrating with anger.

“Do you know the answer?”

“To what?” I lick my lips, and his eyes narrow on the movement before flashing to my eyes.

“If my class bores you, you can always sit in the hall. Maybe pick back up on your daydreaming.”

The class snickers, even Jake. Not being in the mood for this today, I sigh loudly. Which earns me a dark scowl. Knocking Jake's hand off my thigh, I grab my things.

“You’re right. I would much rather sit in the hall and daydream. Thank you for understanding.” I smile sweetly.

The class gasps as he studies me. His woodsmoke eyes catching fire on my skin.“My class. After school.”

Sighing again, I stop in front of him. Looking him up and down as his jaw hardens further. “Sorry. I’m busy after class. Maybe next time?”

With that, I walk out. Feeling his gaze shoot daggers into my back. But I welcome the pain.

Roll in the sensation it causes between my thighs. Because although I am ignoring him, I still love his attention on me.

I sit in the hallway, staring at the walls covered in flyers and school colors, wondering what’s wrong with me. Why I don’t just end it instead of playing these games. Why I even care if he kisses me or not. It shouldn’t matter but it does. The door swings open, Lincoln peering down at me as he shuts the classroom door quietly. His body is taut, jaw hard. His gaze moves from mine, looking over the hallway. I watch his hands twitch as he looks back down at me. He fists my hair, jerking me up. He moves quickly, strides long and wide as I stumble to keep up. He pushes the door to the TA room open, pulling me past the threshold with him. He slams the door, locking it and pushing me up against it, causing my cardigan to fall off my shoulders and pool at my elbows. Releasing the tight hold on my hair, he gathers my wrists in his strong hands, pinning them to the door above my head.

“Why are you acting out? Is Daddy’s spoiled brat not getting enough attention?”

I stare into his eyes, my gaze hard, unyielding. “Let me go.”

He looks between my pools of blue, back and forth. “I see,” he whispers, looking down to my lips. And then he does it. He lowers his mouth to mine, our lips crashing, causing my knees to go weak at the first taste of his mouth. His tongue sweeps over my lips, causing me to moan, opening to him. Every inch of my body is on fire as his tongue rubs against mine. Clouding my judgement. “You just fucked up,” he grits out, attacking my lips again. It’s everything I’ve wanted but nothing about it is right.

I don’t know what he means by that, but it clears my fuzzy brain a little. “Stop,” I moan out. He doesn’t listen, still devouring me. I push my head into his, making him inch back. “You never gave me a safe word. So, when I tell you to stop, you stop.”

He nods, releasing my hands and taking a step back. I am furious and breaking. To feel so angry and sad at once makes me feel manic. “Are we going to talk about it? Why you’re so upset, even though I broke my rule to make you happy?”

And that was it, wasn’t it? He didn’t do it because he wanted to. No, he did it because he thought that would solve the problem, put me back in his bed “I don’t want you to kiss me because that’s what I want. I want you to kiss me because the urge is so all-consuming you can’t fight it.”

He looks confused, such a smart man to be so dumb sometimes. “But that’s why you’re mad. Because I refused to kiss you. Why you’re ignoring me, acting out in class, letting that fucker touch you.”

I sigh, banging my head slightly against the door behind me. “I’m mad because your actions say one thing, but your words speak another. You act like I’m so precious but as soon as things get deep, I’m just some silly girl. You’re a coward, Lincoln.”

I turn to leave, when he catches my wrist. “Callum.”

I jerk my hand away, opening the door as soon as the bell rings. Students walk about, oblivious to the taboo situation right in front of their eyes. I shut the door, closing Lincoln inside with his thoughts before he can drag me back in there.

Bonfire parties are my favorite.Especially ones that celebrate the end of volleyball season. We had an amazing season and it’s so bittersweet knowing I’ll never play in a high school gym again. All of us are outside, parents paying the neighbors and cops so we can be young and wild outdoors. There’s a huge fire roaring in the middle of the backyard. Couples making out on one side while I sit on the other in my pink fuzzy lawn chair. I think it’s made to be inside, but fuck that. I’m bundled up in a fuzzy mint green blanket, talking to Bethany because Macy is making out with her new flavor of the week. I’m not even sure I know his name, honestly. And does he go to our school? I don’t think so. Her head pops up from her lip-locking.

“Ride or die, bitch.” She points at me.

“Ride or die, babe,” I yell back, falling into Bethany, laughing in our drunken state.

“I think I want to make these vampire fangs permanent,” Bethany muses.
