“Literally a kid’s drink,” Amiyah says, sipping her drink which is basically ice cream with a dash of coffee. “Now, on a serious note, how are you holding up, Brix?”

I shrug, picking at my muffin. “I’m all right, I guess. How should one feel when someone is actively trying to kill them?”

Amiyah rubs my shoulder. “Don’t worry, we’ll find them.”

I nod, but it feels futile, like my friends won’t find the killer until after they murder me. It would be easier if I knew why. But I’ve racked my brain a trillion times, and always come up blank. I never made any enemies—hell, I barely made friends.

Prim and Amiyah drag me out of my slump when they rise. “Come on,” Prim says with a sweet smile on her face. “Let’s go find you a new fun bedspread.”

A grin carves into my cheeks. “Okay.”

We take Amiyah’s Range Rover to the mall. Prim and Amiyah act a fool in the luxury home and décor store. Having pillow fights, pretending to be asleep on the beds. I pause at a ruby red silk set of sheets. “Oh,” Prim says from beside me, “those are beautiful.”

“Yeah, but what comforter will I pair with them?”

“You’ll buy this fluffy insert and grab a duvet.” Amiyah holds up a white fluffy blanket that looks like clouds.

“That thing is a couple of grand.” My eyes widen at the expensive cloud.

“Who cares, Beckett won’t.”

“But I will.”

Amiyah ignores me, throwing the cloud and red silk sheet set into the buggy. “Come along, girls, let’s go to the duvets. I think fur would look so hot with the silk.” Primrose skips along as I stand still, shocked by the cloud and its price tag. “Come on, Brixley!” Amiyah shouts across the store, and I shake my head.I’ll pay him back. Even if it’s half my savings.

I refuse to choose a fur duvet after looking at the price. Amiyah shrugs, grabbing one in gray, white, and black, tossing them in the buggy. I don’t stick around for the checkout, or I’ll puke.

Amiyah comes out of the store, pure bliss on her face as she carries the bags in her hands, blowing her deep onyx hair out of her face, she leads us to what looks like a sex shop. “What are we doing here?” Prim asks.

“Brixley needs a pole for her room to make her heart feel complete and you need a vibrator,” Amiyah answers.

Primrose blushes. “No, I don’t.”

Amiyah rolls her eyes. “You have a boyfriend now, and you have little to no experience. If you can’t give yourself an orgasm, how can you trust someone else to?” she says, hinting to the boy I had to help sneak out this morning.

I shrug. “She has a good point.”

Prim’s eyes widen as we pass toys, whips, and gags. I hold my laughter in as she pulls up some anal beads, inspecting them. “Is it like a rosary?”

Amiyah loses it, and I soon follow, laughing out loud.

Primrose glares. “Do not laugh at me.”

“I’m sorry,” I breathe out.

“Those are anal beads,” Amiyah offers, causing Primrose to squeak and drop them to the floor. “Come on.” Amiyah laughs, clutching her stomach. “Let’s go get Brixley a pole.”

With my girls, life is fun, peaceful. Makes me realize just how much I’ve been missing out on.

“Did you get what you needed?”Beckett asks as we walk into the living room. Amiyah and Prim helping me carry my bags.

“She did,” Amiyah answers for me.

“And did you, Amiyah? Did you get what you needed?”

She nods, holding up a bag. “New Hermès bag.”
