"Nurse. What patient did Nurse Thimble just come from seeing."

"I'm sorry, it was my patient. She took the chart, since I'd just finished up with another. I don't know what happened." She babbles and I wave my hand in the air, not caring about her apology.

I'm not going to be mad because they were working as a team.

"Which patient?" I ask again.

All the muscles from my jaw down to my feet are clenched in tension.

"Room six." She replies and I turn to go in. I stop before entering and call her to come with me.

The way I feel, if I go in there without a witness, I might do something that could cost me my license. Hell, even with the witness, I might do something that will cost me my license.

I exhale sharply when I walk in the exam room and see who's in there.

Adam Whitman.

The jock who never quite got over his glory years in high school. He and I were in the same classes In high school. He was a jerk then, and apparently he's still a jerk now

"Ah, if it's not good old Nic Dracos. I've got to tell you. I don't know what kind of nurses you hire in this place, but I don't think that last one was up to snuff."

I take another step forward and gag at the intense liquor smell.

How the hell is this man not passed out?

"What did you do to my nurse?" I get straight to the point. I don't have time to play friendly with him. The shorter the time I'm in there with him, the better the chances he has of making it out with all his teeth.

"Your nurse?" he gets up from the table and wobbles slightly. He's drunk out of his mind. "That bitch doesn't know how to deal with patients. Isn't that what this place is here for, so you all can take care of us. I was trying to show her where it hurt. She wouldn't touch it. That's not nice now, is it, Nic?" He says, tilting his head and blinking twice dramatically.

My eye twitches at the use of my first name. I wasn't even a friend to him back when we were in high school, I don't know what the hell gives him the idea that he can be so familiar with me now.

Adam takes a step in my direction, and Nurse Lee jerks forward slightly when he wobbles to the other side. She hasn't moved from behind me since we got in the room.

"Come on, you know me, Nic. We go way back. I was only playing around with her. Why don't you convince her that she should stop being so stuck up? I can show her a real good time." he smiles, and one of his hands drops to his dick, which he gives a squeeze.

Red clouds my vision and I take three large steps in his direction, which startles Adam and causes him to stumble backwards until he's sitting back on the bed. Only when I hear Nurse Lee gasp do I stop myself from punching him in the face.

"Mr. Whitman, I need you to hear me well. I don't want to hear tomorrow or the next day that you were too drunk to remember. You will leave and never come back here. Seek medical care elsewhere. I don't want to see your face unless you're one breath away from dying, and then I only might take care of you on the sidewalk." I snarl, just waiting for him to raise a hand to me in an even mildly threatening manner.

He stands up from the bed, puffs up his chest, but I don't move an inch. We're nearly nose to nose now.

"I don't have to go anywhere."

"Okay, well, if you won't respect my word as the lead physician here, then I can take this doctor's coat off, and we can go outside to see who comes out on top. You'll be hurting way worse than you are now. I promise you that." Venom oozes through my teeth as I glare at him. He stutters and stares at me in wide-eyed shock.

"Mr Whitman, I can give you a list of private physicians you can resume your care with." Nurse Lee says, and he looks away from me. When he glances back at me, I haven't taken my gaze off him.

I'm waiting. Ready to destroy this asshole for whatever he did to Nyla.

When he steps around me and talks to Nurse Lee, I stand back with my arms crossed over my chest, just to make sure he doesn't do anything inappropriate. She quickly gives him some printouts and tells him which are closer. When he walks out, I follow him to the front door just to make sure that he truly leaves the property.

Nurse Lee goes back to the nurses station, but doesn't say anything about how I nearly lost my cool.

"Take a few minutes for yourself. I'll be speaking with Nurse Thimble in my office."

I don't wait for her reply, instead I turn on my heel and beeline straight for the locker room. Before I make it to the door, Nyla comes out. She's not crying any more which comes as a great relief to me.

"Nurse Thimble. Come with me, please." I say, and she nods once, letting her gaze fall to the ground, completely contrite. I don't think I like to see her like this, either.
