Nyla is saying encouraging words to the man we're working on, and I hope it's getting through. I can't stand the thought of losing him.

We stay on him for another three minutes until the man wakes and Nyla and I fall into each other's arms celebrating.

"Okay, we need to get him inside. Straight away."

Looking around at all the destruction and hurt patients there's no way my small hospital will be able to hold all of them, as if reading my mind Megan comes up to me to let me know that she's already called Wilmington and the surrounding hospitals to let them know that they'll need to reroute some of the patients. I take in as many as I can and the rest are either taken via medi- chopper or ambulance to other hospitals.

It's a mess, but I'm happy that no one so far has succumbed to their injuries. I take a second to look around and realize that it wasn't just me who did this, but my staff. I'm far too lucky to have people like them around me.

Eighteen hours of non-stop moving. I've been running around for eighteen hours high on adrenaline trying to get all the patients I can handle stable. By the time things start to die down, I'm falling asleep on my feet. I've already sent Ardi home since she was here since last night and made sure the nurses have been taking turns in the break room getting some downtime when they can, but I haven't taken a break except to piss.

Nyla is the one to stop me when I all but collapse against the wall.

"Dr. Dracos, you need to get home and get some rest. You can't help them if you're not at your best." She says, and I want to argue, but the words don't even come out of my mouth.

"Hold on, I'll drive you home." She says before she rushes over to the nursing station and talks to Nurse Lee.

Dr. Mason comes out and sees me against the wall. "Dr. Dracos, if you try to see another patient, I'm going to have a problem. You need to go home." He puts his best father voice on, and I can't help but chuckle at it. Now everyone feels the need to tell me what to do.

They're all right.

Nyla comes back over to me and asks me something about my keys, which I grunt out that they're in my office.

I'm in such an exhausted state that I don't even realize that she's gotten them, and we're walking to the car. The cool pre-dawn air is what wakes me up.

"Wait, what about..."

"Nic, everything is taken care of. I promise you. You've got some good people working for you. It's fine." She says and I relax a bit.

We get into my car, and she claps a little once she gets into the driver's seat.

"You just wanted to drive the Tesla." I mutter.

"Can't say it's not a perk." She laughs. "Doesn't this spaceship have GPS?"

I press the front console and then the icon for home. A map shows up and turn by turn directions follow. I'm sleeping in the passenger seat before she even pulls out of the parking lot.

"Hey moneybags, wake up." Nyla shakes me slightly and my eyes pop open.

I look up and realize that we're in front of my home.

"Is this your place?" She asks incredulously.

The large dark gray two-story house is unique and mine.

"Yeah, this is me." I say and she gives a whistle.

"God, now I feel like you were lying about wanting to get an RV. What do you need that when you have something like this?" She asks, looking up.

"Your house is a transformer. My house is boring." I say and she giggles.

"Come on, let's get you into bed. You've had a big day." She makes fun.

I get out of the car shaking my head, trying to get the last remaining bits of sleep to go away. That small nap is enough to give me a bit of energy. I press my finger to the doorknob, and it clicks open.
