"Oh shit." I stared at him with wide eyes.

"Yeah." He nodded. "He's basically in financial ruin, and they're going to lose the house and the car. And my mom doesn't know. And Rosalie doesn't know." He ran his hand through his hair. "I just don't even know what to say, you know? I'm a financial guru. My dad should have come to me. I just don't understand why he did all these things without even asking my advice. And now!"

"What does he want you to do?" I said softly.

"He wants me to bail him out." Foster almost chuckled. "Now he sees that I'm a financial genius, but I don't have that sort of money just lying around. I'm still pretty new to my career. I..." He let out a deep sigh. "I guess I've got to do it even though I don't want to do it."

"What?" I asked him, confused as to what he was talking about.

"I got a job offer," he said. "Running a new branch of the company I work for."

"Oh cool," I said. "Congratulations."

"Thanks," he said. "It will pay a lot of money, and it will give me stock options and a much larger salary, much larger commission base. I will be able to sort out my dad's financial situation."

"Wow. So... That's awesome." I smiled at him, not understanding why he still looked so grim.

"I guess," he said. "It's in..." He licked his lips nervously. And I stared at him, suddenly realizing we were both naked. It was weird because I always thought that when two people were naked together, the first thing on their mind would be sex and lust and getting down and dirty. But even though he was standing there, his cock pressed against my stomach, all I could think about was him being in distress and upset and wanting to comfort him. "It's in Brazil, Alice."

"Brazil?" My eyes widened, and my jaw dropped. "Is there a Brazil that I'm not thinking about?" I said, blinking at him.

He shook his head. "I don't think so."

"Are you talking about Brazil, Brazil? Like where they have Carnival and the capital is Rio de Janeiro and...?" He nodded. "South America, Brazil?" He nodded again. "Oh." I stared at him.

"Yeah," he said.

"So you're moving to Brazil?"

"I didn't want to," he said quickly, "but it seems like I don't really have an option right now."

"You're moving to Brazil?" He stared at me and nodded. "For how long?" I could feel tears about to fall, and I pressed my lips together. I could not cry at this moment even though devastation coursed through my body.

"A couple of years"—he shrugged—"maybe longer."

"A couple of years? Oh."

"You can stay here, of course. And I wouldn't charge rent, and you don't even have to get a roommate and—"

"No, I can't stay here. I can't afford it. And I'm not having you pay for me." I shook my head quickly. "It's fine. I'll..." I paused. "Wait, how can I be your assistant and go through the program if..."

He sighed. "I'm guessing the assistant position would not be one that you could take unless..." He stared at me for a few seconds.

"What?" I said.

"Unless you moved with me to Brazil."

"Oh." I stared at him with wide eyes. "I could still be in the program as well?"

"No." He shook his head. "You have to be based in New York to be part of the apprenticeship program."

"Oh. But I could be your assistant in Brazil. I just couldn't..."

"Yeah, so that makes no sense. You want to be more than an assistant in life, I'm sure. I mean, there's nothing wrong with being an assistant or anything, but..."

I bit down on my lower lip. A part of me wanted to tell him, "Hell yes, I'll go to Brazil with you. I'll be your assistant. I'll do whatever you want me to just as long as you say that you want me to go and you want us to be together." But we'd only spent one night together, and we hadn't expressed any sort of feelings to each other. He certainly hadn't led me to believe he wanted to be in a relationship with me. There was no way I could say anything like that.

"It's too much to ask for you to give up a promising career when you're really stepping into the world of finance as a newbie. I can't take away that opportunity from you."
